Lead Me Upstairs Lyrics
I care little for my body she said
I couldn't care less about my soul
and as she lead me upstairs in whispers
my whole summer turned cold
CHORUS
I'll lead you upstairs
I'll lead you upstairs
if you've got no worries
then I've got no cares
I'll lead you upstairs
I told her people had been talking
about how dark she was inside
she said my hope are buried in the soil
deep in the earth outside
and with one twist of the world
she brought me to her side
she asked me for the truth one time
and all I did was lied
chorus
I couldn't care less about my soul
and as she lead me upstairs in whispers
my whole summer turned cold
I'll lead you upstairs
I'll lead you upstairs
if you've got no worries
then I've got no cares
I'll lead you upstairs
about how dark she was inside
she said my hope are buried in the soil
deep in the earth outside
and with one twist of the world
she brought me to her side
she asked me for the truth one time
and all I did was lied

I heard this song was written for a girl when he was at the tender age of 17! Quite a song fopr a 17 year old. Best heard on the DVD tho.
This song is only really great on the live DVD. The album version is not half that beautiful. I think it's about an affair, without love. A physical relationship without love.
This song makes me think that he is writing about a girl that has a lot of insecurities and as a result, the only way she can feel wanted is to have sex with anyone willing. I think David Gray is then writing about the guy whom is talking to her, ready to have sex with her, and he does not feel it important to use her any differently.
My dad is a poet and he sat down and talked to David Gray. There, he gave David one of his poems: "I'll lead you upstairs I'll lead you upstairs If you've got no worries Then I've got no cares I'll lead you upstairs"
So that's where the chorus came from.
