Sweet Girl Lyrics
Appears on : Fleetwood Mac's "The Dance" (WB 1997) and Stevie Nicks' "The Enchanted Works of Stevie Nicks" (Atlantic/Modern 1998)
And he says, "What do you love to do?
Outside your world,
Who spends time with you
From whom do you learn when you're not working... Sweet Girl....
Where would you go if you had the time?
Crossing some crazy state line somewhere?
To whom do you cry
When people are unkind... Sweet Girl
I chose to dance across the stages of the world
Everyone said I'd never learn
I still hear your words
I waited all my life for you....Sweet Girl
I did try to come back and listen
You never knew that I didn't wish it
But I did hear every answer...every question
It's all about protection
Still through the sunlight days I wait
Track a ghost through the fog
The sun is burning me
And you come running out in the wind with me
The ocean is your blanket
I chose to dance across the stages of the world
Everyone said I'd never learn
I still hear your words
Well, I waited all my life for you
I watched you fly across the world in a golden ball
Many of the cities, I never saw at all
Sometimes I think I was always on-call
Sometimes even I am allowed to fall
He says, come down here for a minute...Sweet Girl...
Outside your world,
Who spends time with you
From whom do you learn when you're not working... Sweet Girl....
Crossing some crazy state line somewhere?
To whom do you cry
When people are unkind... Sweet Girl
Everyone said I'd never learn
I still hear your words
I waited all my life for you....Sweet Girl
You never knew that I didn't wish it
But I did hear every answer...every question
It's all about protection
Track a ghost through the fog
The sun is burning me
And you come running out in the wind with me
The ocean is your blanket
Everyone said I'd never learn
I still hear your words
Well, I waited all my life for you

Stevie said she wrote this song, partly about her life, and being on the road but also about Christine McVie, formerly of Fleetwood Mac. She said she is the "sweet girl" in the song.
I like the little “track a ghost through the fog” bit, for those of you who do not know it’s a nod to Fleetwood Mac’s “angel” from the tusk album. I love this song!
Yeah I have also heard this is about Chris McVie. And I think Stevie wrote it when Chris was about to leave Fleetwood Mac and everybody knows that Nicks supported her in that decision.
