I don't know if this is what Davey meant by it (or did Geoff write this song? I forget...) but I took it to be like this situation with a couple of girls I know. They really didn't have difficult lives at all; they had friends and money and worshipful guys at their disposal. I've always pretty much been a loser hermit. And suddenly, they started trying to act like me--borrowing odd fashion statements of mine, alienating people and being antisocial. I don't try to alienate people or be antisocial, it just happens. I'm a shy person, but I know they aren't. So their personality makeovers are strange to me. I know it's not really them. And why did they change? I used to get so much grief for it, and it will only cause them problems. I can understand pretending you're popular when you're not, but pretending to be unpopular when you're not? I'm not exactly sure of their motivation, I'm not exactly sure what they're trying to do.

Simple as that. Trying to fool yourself and others about what you really are. It's human nature (generally) to try to fit in, and if someone likes how someone else looks or acts, they're more likely than not going to try to copy them in some form or another, even if it's against their nature.

I think it is about a poser punk who is trying to be seen as a true punk by other punks, but all he cares about is the image, not the underlying philosophies or goals of the punk scene.

This is cool. I brought my answer that and stay fashionable cd to my german teacher to find out what the title meant. She had no clue so she wrote it down. She said she looked for an hour and a half before she said it out loud . The title says Your Friend And Mine. Thanks for reading my boring story.

can anyone but me hear a slight difference in the Yurf Rendenmein from Answer That and Stay Fashionable and the one from Very Proud of Ya? i don't know...maybe I'm crazy...

The bass line in the begining is the difference I believe. I don't have them on this cpu at the moment so I can't listen to them, but they are two different recordings so you're not crazy. And once I started wondering what the tilte mean, I got it right away. However, I didn't really bother wondering what it meant for quite some time though.
