this song rocks!

I think this song means that though all the tough times and troubles AFI had and shit, the fans were always there to show their support and because of that, the band and the fans are united as one. It basically means that they went though hard times together and stayed as one, and they will continue to be who they are though thick or thin. Always a great starting song at an AFI show. It always seems to get the crowd amped.

i have to disagree...this entire album deals with depression and cutting, and this is a perfect example...i think that "through are bleeding we are one" is saying to all the people like himself(davey) who cut and are depressed that they arnt alone...i feel that in no way its about the band considering this was the first album jade was on and this was right after hunter joined...kodos for trying

Actually I think that this song is about people sticking together, if you think about the lyrics. "Through our bleeding, we are one" Meaning we all have suffering in our lives, but this brings us together. I think the next part means that we who have suffered, punks and goths, who are AFI's audience prefer the dark, and when the light comes, bringing with it the rest of society and those who would reject us, so we are forced to endure whatever they say or do, until the darkness comes again, and we can be ourselvesfreely and without persecution.

this is a good intro song, and so is fall children and keeping out of direct sunglihg. they play this song at mnost of their shows now, as their intro, its bascially everyoen screaming, "THROUGH OUR BLEEDING WE ARE ONE" then jade and hunter start going crazy and jumping around, then Davey walks out and body right up against the crowd, barely singing becaseu everyone knows it, with him stretching his arms out and making fist and crazy shit like that, go see them live or trade live videos if u can, best band ever live - hands down ps join the Despair Faction, AFI's fan club stay fresh

I think that this song is about unity ......through the bleeding of mankind we are one........ that that deos not kill us will only make us stronger.....nonethelless the allways open with this (usually with a 5min opera type intro b4 the song starts) and it gets you pumped as hell... Davey is a genius.....

i agree with madcappunk, but what does "deify the wretched ones" mean?

well, deify means to honor or glorify someone who's against something, such as the church or some sort of authorty like that (im REALLY not positive if it means exactly that, so don't jump down my throat telling me I'm wrong...). so deifying (sp?) the wretched ones is kind of repeating the word (deify = honor wretched people...so why does it repeat wretched ones??) I can relate to this song in terms on September 11. Having it hit home so much and so close this song kind of took a whole new meaning after 9/11 (sounds corny, doesn't it?)...think about it. Through the darkness comes the light..eventually the bad will pass.."through the light unending pain"..after the tragedy or whatever, there's the time period of pain, grieving... And the last line...well I don't know how to fit that in.

The "thru our bleeding we are one" part reminds me of september 11...(my b day t00) :/
