Sleep Away Your Troubles Lyrics
If I beg you will you smother me
Just to put me out of my constant misery?
This is too much for me to bear
You'd know this too if you ever had been there
I hope you have sweet dreams
And I hope you will never leave me
I hope you never leave me
I wander through these empty halls
Pass the moon cast shadows of just me upon the walls
My time wasted in endless regret
While you sleep away your troubles and forget
I hope you have sweet dreams
And I hope you will never leave me
I hope you never leave me
Just to put me out of my constant misery?
This is too much for me to bear
You'd know this too if you ever had been there
And I hope you will never leave me
I hope you never leave me
Pass the moon cast shadows of just me upon the walls
My time wasted in endless regret
While you sleep away your troubles and forget
And I hope you will never leave me
I hope you never leave me

i think this song is about a girl who is with a guy who she is smitten for, but he doesn't really return the feeling - like he just doesn't love her the way she loves him. the point is that she knows it, and she regrets falling for him and is panged by the thought he doesn't feel the same way, as he 'sleeps away his troubles and forgets' about it. she looks past his mediocre feelings because she loves him unconditionally. through love unrequited, she still hopes he will never leave her.
Sleep Away Your Troubles is about an unrequited love and the stalemate that distance can cause. It is unclear to us whether the singer is close to the subject of the song, though one can assume that they are in each other’s lives as per the line “I hope you never leave me’.
Much of the song is about how despite bearing the pain of a one-sided love the singer continues to wish well for the subject, almost blessing them in hopes nothing changes for the worse.
An unhappy stalemate is more comfortable than defeat.
i love this song... it's so sweet and fun to sing along to.
i think it's "this is too much for me to bear"
Personally I've always thought this song was about a girl whose boyfriend leaves her after she has his child. She's breaking under the stress as he's completely uninvolved in either of their lives (you'd know this too if you ever had been there). Therefore, the boy is completely free of these responsibilities (while you sleep away your trouble and forget). The chorus, I believe, is a lullaby to the baby... she's basically telling the child never to abandon her like the boy did.
Anyways, that's just my interpretation. It might be super off, but that's just how I've always felt about the song. :D
