Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car Lyrics

Hey you,
get into my car
Who me?
Yes you,
get into my car
Woooooh.
Wah
Yeah

Who's that lady
Coming down the road
Who's that lady
Who's that woman
Walking through my door
What's the score
I'll be the sun
Shining on you
Hey Cinderella
Step in your you
I'll be your non-stop lover
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I'm your man

Get outta my dreams
Get into my car
Get outta my dreams
Get in the back seat baby
Get into my car
Beep beep, yeah
Get outta my mind
Get into my life
Oooooooooh
Oh, I said
hey (Hey)
you (You)
Get in to my car

Oh baby

Lady driver
Let me take your wheel
Smooth operator
Touch my bumper
(Bumper)
Hey, let's make a deal
Make it real
Like a road runner
Coming after you
Just like a hero
Outta the blue
I'll be your non-stop lover
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I'm your man

Get outta my dreams
Get into my car
Get outta my dreams
Get in the back seat baby
Get into my car
Beep beep, yeah
Get outta my mind
Get into my life
Oooooooooh
Oh, I said
hey (Hey)
you (You)
Get into my car

Oh baby, let's go
I said open the door
(Get in the back)
Tread on the floor
(Get on the track)

Yeah (Yeah)
Yeah (Yeah)
Yeah (Yeah)
Yeah (Yeah)

Let's go
Ooooh, wooow, yeah

I'll be the sun
Shining on you
Hey Cinderella
Step in your shoe
I'll be your non'stop lover
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I'm your man

Get outta my
Get outta my
Wooooooh
Get outta my dreams.

I really didn't think much about this song when it was released in 1988 until my now late brother and a friend told me how much they liked it and it reflected their feelings for finding the right woman, a livelong love. They said it in a light-hearted way but I could tell they were also serious. It was pretty much of a mantra for them and both of them were married within a couple of years, loves that withstood the test of time. Today it especially reminds me of the brother I lost and miss.

Listening to the lyrics now the song definitely has a touch of a sleazy Pretty Woman rescue story thing going on. The song is about his fixation with a lady he’s seen on the road while cruising in his car. He talks of “making a deal” with her at the roadside, and her being like Cinderella (so him Prince Charming) with connotations of him saving her a life of servitude.

Combine that with the whole song is purely about sex, sex in cars and notably not romantic love “I’ll be your nonstop lover”, and it’s reasonable to suggest the song tells a story of a man with long standing but as yet unrealized fantasies about sex with prostitutes, and his obsession with a particular hooker he’s seen while curb crawling.
This song came out 2 years before the Pretty Woman movie, so it’s too much to suggest any connection there, but the imagery the song suggests is definitely in that ball park.
