No Aphrodisiac Lyrics

A letter to you on a cassette
'Cause we don't write anymore
Gotta make it up quickly
There's people asleep on the second floor

There's no aphrodisiac like loneliness
Truth, beauty and a picture of you

You'll be walking your dog in a few hours
I'll be asleep in my brother's house
You're a thousand miles away
With food between your teeth
Come up for summer, I've got a place near the beach
There's room for your dog

There's no aphrodisiac like loneliness
Truth, beauty and a picture of you

There's no aphrodisiac like loneliness
Truth, beauty and a picture of you
There's no aphrodisiac like loneliness
Youth, truth, beauty, fame, boredom and a bottle of pills

There's no aphrodisiac like loneliness
You shouldn't leave me alone
There's no aphrodisiac like loneliness
Bare feet like a tomboy and a crooked smile

Truth, youth, beauty, fame, boredom, red hair, no hair, Innocence, Saturday and a picture of you
A letter to you on a cassette
You shouldn't leave me alone

Forty, shaved, sexy, wants to do it all day
With a gun-totin', trigger-happy tranny named Kinky Renée
Tired teacher, twenty-eight seeks regular meetings
For masculine, muscular, nappy-clad, brutal breeding
While his wife rough-wrestles with a puppy all aquiver
On a wine-soaked, strobe-lit, Asiatic hall of mirrors
And a dash of loneliness

There's no aphrodisiac quite like it
Truth, youth, beauty, fame, boredom, red hair, no hair, Innocence, impunity and a picture of you

I got a video set-up, me love you short time
She pay me suck his finger with some fine wine
And a dash of loneliness

Truth, youth, beauty, fame, boredom, red hair, no hair, Innocence, awkwardness, impunity and a picture of you

And I quote, from thewhitlams.com ... "Written by Tim Freedman with his friends from Machine Gun Fellatio ('Isaac & Fuzz'), it starts out as a sentimental lament of love at a distance. But loneliness means falling back on oneself - not always a pretty sight. His exhortations regress into unfettered depravity, resembling the lonely hearts classifieds of Picture Magazine. The velvety strings at the head are gradually swallowed by a wall of guitar, just as, in the lyric, sweet solitude becomes the fuel for carnality. "

Gorgeous song. I love it. <3

One of The Whitlams most beautiful songs, if not the most beautiful. Dressed2Depress, you are both right and wrong...as rachthegreat said so perfectly, the song starts with the reminiscence of love and finishes at something completely different. It's telling of the way that we so easily and thoughtlessly drift down the wrong path to fill a void that exists within us; a void that yearns to be filled. Anyway, cheers to Tim and the boys on one hell of a song.

...or as she didn't say. She just quoted someone else. What she added was that it is gorgeous, which it isn't. But yeah I pretty much agree with your interpretation although I don't really see any evidence of love, feels to me more like longing or lust

it's trying to say that loneliness isn't something sad and beautiful, but something that drives people to be unholy in desperation for human contact

the start of the song is slow, and as it builds up toward the end, it shows how desperate lonliness can make someone, especially with the use of the "nonsense" words and incorrect grammar, eg "me love you short time, she pay me suck his finger with some fine wine.."

"Me love you short time" is a reference to an Asian profile. Like "me love you long time"

Not incorrect grammar

Apart from being a touching song it seems I can relate to it... I had a long distance relationship and then eventually ended. The only way I could maintain the contact with her was leaving voice messages on her phone because she would not answer anymore and living with house mates, doing this late at night would often mean it had to be short and sweet so I didn't wake anyone. "Tim Freedman, makes ref to this in the first verse" or similiar.

She lived in Adelaide and I in Sydney, she had an obsession with her cat and I would always ask her in the voice messages to join me in sydney and say the cat was more than welcome. I'm not sure if Tim is referring to what I think, but the "Food between your teeth" maybe referring to another man taking her out for dinner. Which was the situation in my case.

From here in the song I can relate so much, having broken up with the best girl I had ever had... I didnt have the confidence to approach new girls or want for a new connection, So I sought internet dating sites to fullfil my sexual needs. Going through profile after profile, reading all the stuff described in this song. After looking through thousands of female profiles I found myself looking through tranny profiles. Although not needing a gay sexual need, it was the thought of a response to fill that lonely void in my life. Tim Freedman, found the true meaning of aphrodisiac. No food, drink, or supplement can create that desire you feel for someone when they've left your life and loneliness is one of the worst things about ending a relationship, hence its the greatest aphrodisiac.
