Hey Brother Lyrics

Hey brother
Get yourself together
Don't you wait

Can't you see
I'm waiting in the shadows
To take your place

There is a chance
But I'll keep trying
To tell you the truth
Then end up lying to you

Chorus:
You said you were late
And I planned my escape
Such a happy thing
Just another one of my mistakes
So you held your breath
And you cursed the west
Said you had no choice
You're moving back east where men are men

Your mother
Never found a reason
To hesitate

Now you're waiting
For a warmer welcome
In colder states

chorus

Love's got the border
Why don't you feel free
To cross my state line
And bring yourself to me

It's a hell of a struggle
Been grounded for years
Words that I use up to, oh
For your ears

chorus

i think this song is about a girl who gets pregnant, and the guy doesn't want to help her out at all so she moves back to her hometown and lives with her mother.

You got it. This song is definitley about an unwanted pregnancy (on the guy's side) so the girl goes and moves back home to get help with the baby.

Now you're waiting For a warmer welcome In colder states

The warmer welcome is the whole part about the mom wanting the baby and her family wanting the baby. The Colder states is referring to the family's feelings for the father, they are not pleased with him.

The father still loves the kid but I dont think he loves the mother.

There is a chance But I'll keep trying To tell you the truth Then end up lying to you

He want sto tell the mother that he wants the kid but he instead uses it as an excuse to get rid of her.

Your mother Never found a reason To hesitate

he tells her he doesnt want the kid and she doesnt hesitate to leave.

Love's got the border Why don't you feel free To cross my state line And bring yourself to me

He wants the kid to find him.

I love beulah.

whatever it means, it's part of the soundtrack to my life... this summer, a couple friends and i drove up to wisconsin and went whitewater rafting... it was an awesome day, but afterwards, we couldn't find a place to camp, and we were driving around looking at campsites (full, full, full, bulldozers digging the place up, full) as the sunset over the forests of northern wisconsin... and the mellow horns of this song were a perfect backdrop... i'll never forget it... great times, and a great song

I like LittleHonda's interp, but I think there is another man involved, because of the first 2 sections. Who is he adressing when he says "hey brother, pull yourself together"? And who's place is he waiting to take?

I always thought the song was about a girl who cheats on her boyfriend with the narrator and gets pregnant. However, neither guy will own up and take responsibility for the child. The boyfriend doesn't want the baby, but still thinks it's his. The narrator loves the girl, but hasn't told the the boyfriend that he's the real father.

I don't know, this is just my idea. It's tough because the song keeps changing who it is addressing. I think the first verse is directed towards the boyfriend, and the rest (including the chorus) is for the girl.

LOVE it.

I always thought the last line was "The words that I use are to old for your ears".
