I really like this song in that it shows man the way to come and know Christ. The verses that read

I feel this is saying that if you have a true relationship with God that you will feel it in you heart, like I did those days I accepted Christ into my life and was baptized. It says posses the question of “Where is my God?” and just like the song says, God is always in your heart if you believe and never 10 zillion light years away... A great song all around...
I like the way that this song applies to all religions and not just christianity. When he says "his spirit" I didn't think of it as the prophet Jesus pbuh but as God.

i'm not relgious at all, in fact i'm athiest, but i have to say that this is in my top 3 favourite stevie wonder songs of all time. the lyrics are brilliant, and as usual, stevie's voice is beautiful.
This song is tied for number 1 (with "Higher Ground") as my favorite SW song. Simply haunting and wrenching. I'm an agnostic (not atheist) but both songs are about our relationship to God, and becoming better people.
Stevie is surely saying that rather than look into what might be after death, make heaven here on earth by treating one another better? That is how I have always understood this haunting song!
