Rush Lyrics

If I have my time again
I would do it all the same
And not change a single thing
Even when I was to blame
For the heartache and the pain
That I caused throughout my years
How I`d love to be your man
Through the laughter and the tears

Situation no win
Rush for the change of atmosphere
I can`t go on so I give in
Gotta get myself right outta here

Now I`m fully grown
And I know where it`s at
Somehow I stayed thin
While the other guys got fat
All the chances that are blown
And the times that I`ve been down
I didn`t get too high
Kept my feet on the ground

Situation no win
Rush for the change of atmosphere
I can`t go on so I give in
Gotta get myself right outta here

And of all my friends
You`ve been the best to me
Soon will be the day
When I`ll pay you handsomely
Broken hearts are hard to mend
I know I`ve had my share
But life just carries on
Even when I`m not there

Situation no win
Rush for the change of atmosphere
I can`t go on so I give in
Gotta get myself right outta here

Situation no win
Rush for the change of atmosphere
I can`t go on so I give in
Gotta get myself right outta here

Gotta get myself right
Gotta get myself right
Gotta get myself right
Outta there

Gotta get myself right
Gotta get myself right
Gotta get myself right
Outta there

More or less a reflection on his life. He knows he didn't live the perfect life, and he didn't always make everyone happy, but he did have a good time... However, the chorus seems a bit of a contrast, he seems to be bored with his life (BTW, I thought it was Situation: No where) and now wants something else new and fun to do.

I think the line is "how I learned to be a man through the laughter and the tears".

One of my favorite bands with depth in lyrics and great musicality. This song is an omage to life and your interpretation of the moment. Either way, all of us have been there...... or will be. :-)

I hear a few of the lyrics differently:

"...and not change a single thing, even when I was to blame for the heartache and the pain that I've caused throughout my years."

"And of all my friends, you've been the best to me. Soon will be the day when I repay you handsomely."

I typed them out like that so that you can see how they look as complete sentences.

@mr13lcky "Soon will be the day when I repay you handsomely."

You heard it correctly

I think it's about life. My older brother and I loved this song. I was 19 back in 1993 when my brother was killed. He was 22., I couldn't think of a better song to play at his funeral. I think it conveyed to everyone what he would have like to tell everyone had he had the chance. It was perfect! Although, you can imagine the Ministers and everyone over the age of 30's shock when this jam back to play after the typical songs like Rock of Ages played! It was AWESOME! I've told my children I would like this to be played during the party (do NOT want a funeral) following my own passing.

@boogie9903 Beautiful sentiment. It seems like your brother lived lfie to the fulllest.

This song is based on the theory of eternal return of the same things, of the philosopher Nietzsche. Eternal return (also known as "eternal recurrence") is a concept that the universe and all existence and energy has been recurring, and will continue to recur, in a self-similar form an infinite number of times across infinite time or space. The concept is found in Indian philosophy and in ancient Egypt and was subsequently taken up by the Pythagoreans and Stoics. With the decline of antiquity and the spread of Christianity, the concept fell into disuse in the Western world, with the exception of Friedrich Nietzsche, who connected the thought to many of his other concepts, including amor fati. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_return

Really like this song. When I was adolescent I used to write down some great lines of songs on post-it notes and hung them in my room. From this song I had a line on one of those notes which always stayed with me:

"But life just carries on Even when I'm not there"

Memory

Is there anyone who believes that the voice in the first break ("delightful, delightful") is Beatles' producer George Martin?

I do!

Looking for cross-validation!
