Book Of Brilliant Things Lyrics

Thank you for the voice, the eyes and the memories shine
Thank you for the pictures of living in the beautiful black and the white
Some say we'll be together for a very long time
Some say that our first impressions never will lie
I open up to take a look into the bright and shiny book
Into the open scheme of things
Book of brilliant things
Book of brilliant things
I open up to take a look into the bright and shiny book;
Into the open scheme of things
Book of brilliant things
Oh, book of brilliant things

I thank you for the shadows
It takes two or three to make company
I thank you for the lightning that shoots up and sparkles in the rain
Some say this could be the great divide
Some day some of them say that our hearts will beat
Like the wheels of the fast train, all around the world

I open up to take a look into the bright and shiny book
Into the open scheme of things
Book of brilliant things
Book of brilliant things

Some say we can be together for a very long time
Some say our hearts will beat like the wheels of a fast train
All around the world
All around the world
All around the world
Some say our hearts beat like the wheels of a fast train
All around the world
All around, all around, around, around
All around the world

Our hearts beat like the wheels of a fast train
A very long time
All around and all around and all around and all around the world
Some say we'll be together
Some say

A very long time, some of them will say
A very long time all around the world

Can you add the City Of Light version of this please? That would be fantastic.

I am intrigued by songmeanings.com's entry (see above) for the writing credits for this song.

For anyone that doesn't recognise the names, Robert Krieger and John Denmore are both members of the band "The Doors".

I know on the Live In The City Of Light version, he sings 2 lines of a Doors lyric

5 to 1, 1 to 5 Nobody here gets out alive

but those 2 lines are not included here.

I wouldn't class myself as a huge Doors fan but I have all of their albums and don't remember Book Of Brilliant Things being on any but I may be mistaken.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

@JLoDaMofo\r\n\r\nDans le premier couplet de la chanson "Five to One" (sur l\'album "Waiting for the Sun" sorti en 1968), il y a des paroles similaires :\r\n\r\nFive to one, baby\r\nOne in five\r\nNo one here gets out alive, now\r\n\r\nJim Morrison : chant\r\nRay Manzarek : claviers\r\nRobby Krieger : guitare\r\nJohn Densmore : batterie\r\nDouglas Lubahn : basse

This isn't really a song meaning, but it is an interesting article and is taken from the bands official website.

Lead singer Jim Kerr is quoted as saying “more than music, ever since my earliest childhood years, books have meant so much to me. Books are revered all over the world and of course for many people certain books are sacrosanct. Books allow people to think for themselves, allowing access to knowledge forgotten or out of favour with the times. Books, as with recorded music, travel over time and distance greater than the author could ever accomplish in person. Dictators have throughout time understood how important it was to control knowledge – to control a nation! Books were burned and banned as a result. My father’s experience as a simple man who educated himself to the highest level, inspired me to write that song.”.

Original version was recorded 1983 and released early 1984 on the album "Sparkle in the rain". A totally different version was recorded live summer 1986 and released 1987 on the album "Live in the city of light".

In an interview in 1984, Jim Kerr said it was about learning. You are never too old to learn. You never stop learning. You learn from books. Books can contain brilliant things.
