I Travel Lyrics
Cities, buildings falling down
Ideal homes falling down
These pictures I see on the wall
Timeless leaders stand so tall
Assassin in a hit and run
Asia steals a new born son
Evacuees and refugees
Presidents and monarchies
Travel round
I travel round
Decadence and pleasure towns
Tragedies, luxuries, statues, parks and galleries
Europe has a language problem
Talk, talk, talk, talk, talking on
In central Europe
Men are marching
Marching on and marching on
Love songs playing in the restaurants
Airport playing Brian Eno
Travel round

Decadence and pleasure towns
Tragedies, luxuries, statues, parks and galleries
Europe has a language problem
Europe has a language problem
America has a language problem
I Travel
Euro-Bureau-Interpol
Making love to the criminals
Asia has a language problem
I Travel
And on and on and on and on and on and on and on
Ideal homes falling down
These pictures I see on the wall

Never heard anything like I Travel before or after either, totally unique sound. Krautrock on speed.
Touring with a rock and roll band, you see a lot of things, good and bad. Here in a frantic pace change is coming fast, buildings falling down, men are marching and language is a problem. Communication is the problem. How to understand each other.
@HankSays in my mind and in my opinion, I think it relates to the Nazis, nothing else really makes any sense otherwise. After NGD, everything went to pot lol.

Its about the people & places of Europe. Their lyrics did not go downhill after this song!
@TopTonyChick Everything went downhill after NGD, in my humble opinion. I loved Simple Minds till they became a "stadium" band, always preferred their superior earlier stuff.

The second verse lyric is 'Airport playing Brian Eno', a reference to Eno's ambient album 'Music For Airports'.
Artistically, with regards to lyrics, it was all downhill for this band after this. Musically, they were superb until Mick MacNeil's departure.
@ccammy after NGD, it all went to pot.

This is obviously about the rise of Hitler and the Nazi party. I also think it relates to Lenin and Stalin. America is named in the song as well as there was a Nazi presence and a Nazi rally was held in New York in 1939. The lyrics relating to the arts etc is about the Nazi hail of stolen art and ancient artifacts. The Nazis were well known for their love of art and historical artifacts.
