Ferry 'cross The Mersey Lyrics
Life goes on day after day
Hearts torn in every way
So ferry 'cross the Mersey
'Cause this land's the place I love
And here I'll stay
People they rush everywhere
Each with their own secret care
So ferry 'cross the Mersey
And always take me there
The place I love
People around every corner
They seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is boy
We'll never turn you away
So I'll continue to say
Here I always will stay
So ferry 'cross the Mersey
Cause this land's the place I love
And here I'll stay
And here I'll stay
Here I'll stay
Hearts torn in every way
'Cause this land's the place I love
And here I'll stay
Each with their own secret care
And always take me there
The place I love
They seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is boy
We'll never turn you away
Here I always will stay
Cause this land's the place I love

The guy was living far from his home, in London or maybe somewhere in America. He got homesick and wanted to be back with people he knew and understood, who would be happy to see him again. There are many songs like this.
I suppose it's about Liverpool?
Whenever I cross over on the ferry they always play this song and it irritates me after a while lol. I like
"People around every corner They seem to smile and say We don't care what your name is boy We'll never turn you away"
the Scousers really are great, a good laugh and just generally a nice lot I think. There's bad apples everywhere but I do love Liverpool and I think that verse nicely describes the majority of true scousers!
I am just grateful I don't work on that effing ferry!
I work about 50 yards from the Liverpool ferry terminal at the Pier Head, and I hear the blessed song through the open office windows. I'm just glad that people still commute to work on it - even if the train under the river is much quicker
I think this song is about getting off the ferry on the wirral! "People around every corner They seem to smile and say We don't care what your name is boy We'll never turn you away" never met a Scouser that would say that!
