Blue Lyrics

There you were on the floor cut up
And all alone I'll help you
Conceived in a chrome dream,
I was the creas in the shirt that this world wears
Till I met Blue, I was in obsicurity he said
Loosen up who do you wanna be?

We could steal a car and listen to the stars
I can see you've choked on them too
Had enough of late night films
Just enough for an hour or two
Oh Blue show me something new
Oh blue show me something new

Blue I've got a question every time I hold you
Ye Blue I've got a question every time I swallow you it's true

Spike danced for 10 days long
We were just heading for the sun
You shot him down there's blood on my face
His heart's in the right place
What they gonna do to you
What they gonna do
Blue don't forget the word I warned you
Oh Blue don't let them push you don't let them destroy you
Meanwhile I'm searching with my brain blown eyes
See the world through my dirty lonely mixed up mind

Cover art for Blue lyrics by Verve, The

I wrote an five plus page analysis paper on this song in college. I researched it extensively. While I'm not positive about my conclusions, I looked into everything that has been said above, and I believe that it is about how drugs seemed great at first and then they ruin the narrator's life. In his addiction he kills someone and continues to blame the drug (who he has personified and calls by name) for his actions. Wild and free? I don't hear it. Mind blowing guitars and one of the most underrated Verve songs of all time I do hear. Who knows? I got a 98% on the paper!

My Interpretation

My interpretation is that Blue is Richard's muse who he has a love/hate relationship with. He feels her inspiration for creativity but the path to it often is a troubling one.

You can also go with the drug reference and how Blue can make us all do things out of character.

I reckon it's about drugs: Blue, I've got a question everytime I swallow you

I'm hard placed to say person or drugs. I see it as a kind of state of mind: a life-defining era that's wild, free, young, with amazing friends and a load of drugs.

PS I get: "We could steal a car and listen to the stars I can see YOU CHOKE on them too Had enough of late night films Just CHILL for an hour or two"

this song reminds me of my first dog, an english bulldog named shadow, died of old age.

Memory

"Blue, I've got a question every time I hold you Yeah, Blue, I've got a question every time I swallow you it's true

Spike danced for 10 days long We were just heading for the sun"

I'm positive this is a reference to Ecstasy. I've already commented on a few other early Verve songs and most of my interpretations refer to drugs (mainly E) but that's what I truly believe most of these songs are about, that being Ashcroft's experiences with E.
