Step On Lyrics
You're twistin' my melon man, you know you talk so hip man
You're twistin' my melon man
Hey rainmaker, come away from that man
You know he's never gonna take away your promised land
Hey good lady he just wants what you got now
He'll never stop until he's taken the lot
(Hey Hey he hey hey)
Gonna stamp out your fire, he can change your desire
Don't you know he van make you forget you're a man
Gonna stamp out your fire, he can change your desire
Don't you know he van make you forget you're a man
You're a man
Hey rainmaker he got golden plans I tell you
You'll make a stranger in your own land
Hey good lady he's got God on his side he got a double
Tongue you never think he would lie
(Oh he lied, oooh he's twistin' my melon man
(Oh he lied, oooh he's twistin' my melon man)
Gonna stamp out your fire, he can change your desire
Don't you know he van make you forget you're a man
Gonna stamp out your fire, he can change your desire
Don't you know he van make you forget you're a man
You're the man, you're the man
He's gonna step on you again, he's gonna step on you
He's gonna step on you again, he's gonna step on you
You're twistin' my melon man
You know he's never gonna take away your promised land
Hey good lady he just wants what you got now
He'll never stop until he's taken the lot
(Hey Hey he hey hey)

Well, this song is originally by a South African guy by the name of John Kongos, and I bet it's got something to do with colonialism and the rise of apartheidt. "He'll make you a stranger in your own land" is a clear reference to the forced migration of the black South Africans to the slums.
They forget the line "kill all the cops" which i think is important to the song.
I think this song is simply about a manipulative backstabber.
'you're twisting my melon' means you're messing with my head
This song is brill cant believe no 1 else has posted on it
this may be one of the best songs ever written but it means absolutley bugger all. its by happy mondays for god sake!
What are you on about? Did you not read the comment by Owennnnnn? He's told you the song was written by John Kongos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kongos) but you say that it's meaningless because it's the Happy Mondays! Get a grip man

I am aware it is a cover of a SA song. But this was The Happy Mondays therefore I'm going for skag. In the sense of the lyrics 'he will stamp out your fire, change your desire, don't you know he will make you forget you're a man,'. Because those are the things heroin does. It will rid you of your personality, change your desire to just heroin then you get dope dick.
dont have a clue what shaun's on bout here. 'twisting my melons'... wtf??
@georgiecasey Your "melon" is your head. "You're twisting my melon" means "you're talking in circles, full of doublespeak, trying to confuse me"

well, as its a happy mondays song, i guess drugs isnt a bad guess, although considering the lyrics more like a drug dealer if it is to do with drugs. but just because its on a particular soundtrack doesnt mean theres a necessary connection between the two
I thought it was "he's gonna take away your promised land." Yeah, and the cops part was forgotten, but I always thought he was saying "Calllll the cops!" So I'm not sure what to think.
