Rosegarden Funeral Of Sores Lyrics
Virgin Mary was tired
So tired
Tired of listening to gossip
Gossip and complaints
They came from next door
And a bewildered stream of chatter
From all sorts of
All sorts of
Untidy whores
Came from next door
Came from next door
But some men are chosen from the rest
But their disappointment runs with their guests
Never would be invited to the funeral rosegarden
But their choice don't seem to matter
They got swollen breasts and lips that putter
And their choice of matter and their scream of chatter
Is just a little parasitic scream of whores
Screaming whores
In the rosegarden funeral of sores
Virgin Mary was tired
So tired of listening to gossip
Gossip and complaints
In the
In the
Rosegarden
Rosegarden funeral of sores
So tired
Tired of listening to gossip
Gossip and complaints
From all sorts of
All sorts of
Untidy whores
Came from next door
But their disappointment runs with their guests
Never would be invited to the funeral rosegarden
They got swollen breasts and lips that putter
And their choice of matter and their scream of chatter
Is just a little parasitic scream of whores
Screaming whores
In the rosegarden funeral of sores
So tired of listening to gossip
Gossip and complaints
In the
Rosegarden
Rosegarden funeral of sores

I like the live version on Press Eject And Give Me The Tape.
@MrLongrove I heard that version for the first time at university in 1987 and it freaked me out. I loved the studio version and I wasn't prepared for how different the live version. It made me wonder if there was something wrong with me (in my defence I was very stoned at the time).

Bauhaus rock it though
Listening to the John Cale rendition comes across differently to me than the Bauhaus version. The Bauhaus one is like anti-conformity rocker "angst", but the John Cale version is more like a cynical snob, motivated not by rage at being suppressed, but by a sense of superiority. To me, it's a compelling contrast. It's not like someone being angry because of the oppressive lack of creativity, but like some calm, arrogant person that understands himself to be so much more superior than "his neighbors". It's more about self-delusion, I think, in the John Cale, vs. the righteousness of an anger we sometimes associate with anti-conformity. Either way, both versions are exceptional tunes, IMO.
