The Black Dahlia Lyrics

I am the ones & the zerosthat control commerce & file you silently far away.
I am the children starving in the gutter bellies full of unabated poverty.
I am nihilism no future base instinct realized environmental collapse.
I am life.
I am the corpse of decency crucified on a post of greed and moral decay.
I am man.
Submit & surrender unto Ceasar what is his rightful due.
Complete oppression no catharsis in emphatic contempt for all of life.
I am man.

I think Randy is talking about how humans are a fucked up species and that people who talk about the intrinsic (sp?) goodness of mankind, have their heads up their asses.

I love the line; "I am the ones & the zeros that control commerce".

Yeah, i agree with you, quiff. I pretty much expect everyone here to know about The Black Dahlia Murder (the disgusting crime, not the band), but that's obviously where the title came from.....

What happened in the black Dahlia Murder?

The body of Elizabeth Short, a bit-part actress, known as 'Black Dahlia' was found chopped in half in a quarry , in the 1940's and a string of innocent people began confessing to the crime (something like 55 people confessed in total), but the killer was never found.

Actually, having said that, I can't remember if it was a quarry or a vacant lot...

I think Randy picked "The Black Dahlia" as the title, because that crime perfectly sums up morbid facination.

Not only in the manner in which she was murdered (pieces of her skin were cut off, her cheek was slashed open, she was cut in half, while still alive and then drained of her blood), but also the way in which she has taken on an almost cultish status, particularly among the alternative music scene.

I feel that this title was chosen because Randy feels that mankind is every bit as groteque as this crime.

On January 15, 1947, a passerby spotted her nude body in a vacant lot near Hollywood. Her body, cut in half, was bruised and beaten and she had reportedly been sodomized after death. Rumors of henna in her hair and BD carved into her body, as of yet to this outlet, have not been verified.....yep thats the BD murder...

We as Humans are a fucked up species, I have to agree with that statement. -_- But...I have yet another Theory. We as a Society may not even exist. Earth may be a figment of imagination. We may not even exist.

youre fuckin stupid

the statement about lamb of god not believing in the "intrinsic goodness of mankind" in my opinion is not correct. Nihilistic implies that there is something better that can rise from the ashes, even hope. Maybe not for this song but in their others tracks lamb of god is very nihilistic.
