Exquisite Corpse Lyrics

1. Life is but a dream repeat

2. I make the air fall apart
Around me
Now as the petals are no more
A corroding, shrinking stalk remains
Bereft of his blooms
And the ultimate cruelty of loves pinions
Beset his appearance
Beset his appearance
No king could replenish his state
Now browning, sinking, dying
A thousand deaths x3

3. Terry sat up
And hugged the green army surplus bag
Around his skinny waist
It was cold
And the person beside him had faded badly
Legs apart his eyes lit up
THE SKY'S GONE OUT - THE SKY, THE SKY...
THE SKY'S GONE OUT

4. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

5. The sky's gone out!

For those who don't know, Exquisite Corpse is a Surrealist game usually played with 3 people. You fold a piece of paper into thirds. Person #1 draws the head and shoulders, then folds the piece of paper back and hands it to the next person. Without seeing what #1 drew, Person #2 draws the torso, repeats the process, and Person #3 draws the legs and feet.

It's not supposed to make sense - it's supposed to be surreal.

interesting... It is like seperate impressions of an exquisite corpse made into a whole song.

I'm making a guess on this, but perhaps when the song was written, it was written in the same way you would play Exquisite Corpse, except with writing not drawing.

Yes it was written in this manner. It was an extremely interesting song to hear for the first time.

Each member wrote a verse. They also did this for another song called "1. David Jay 2. Peter Murphy 3. Kevin Haskins 4. Daniel Ash"

I love Bauhaus, but I just heard this song today, and it was so bizarre. I already love it.

Lets see... it seems to me that some of the verses were sorta' put in as filler, assuming the "Exquisite Corpse" game was used to write this song, some of the filler parts were thrown in by the less lyrically adept (or out of sheer sense of humor) such as "Life is but a dream..." Although (2) definitely seems like someone expressing their misgivings about aging. (3) I would say was about someone being extremely ill or hung-over just looking completely horrid.

Or... (2) could also be about a broken heart now that I think about it. As if his words completely destroyed something of love and value and now he's left barren.
