Dive Lyrics

We're going down
We're going down
We're going down
To the kamikaze dive

Fishnet leatherette
Pussy Galore
Pseudo Sumo wrestler
On the door
Dangerous dances
The dragon's claw
K-Tel Oriental
The monkey's paw

You're a dead ringer
For Madame Butterfly
Snappy little fingers
Stitch my thigh
You're so necromantic
Venomous and vain
Mixing molotov cocktails
In the subterrain

We're going down to the kamikazi dive
Like insects in a Chinese lantern now
We're feeling so alive, what's showing?
We're going down to the kamikaze dive
Like manic moths in Chinese lanterns now
We're feeling so alive, what's showing?

perhaps about going out to some wild clubs (not that there were any in northampton in the early 80's)

I think it's about clubbing also maybe. Lots of oriental references. Maybe kamikaze dive means self destructive behaviour. A dive is obviously a sleazy seedy club. Molotov cocktails? maybe code for drugs? yes I know what they really are. I love the insects in a chinese lantern bit. Whole song is very mysterious. love it. also like the monkeys paw bit.

James Bond and spy movies were big in the 70s going into the 80s. Pussy Galore is a sexy Bond villain, Pseudo Sumo wrestler could be Odd Job, Madame Butterfly is an opera by Puccini about a tragic romance in Japan (the eponymous heroine commits suicide). "You're so" this and that. I suspect that this is directed at a specific leather wearing woman they knew, or it could be more general. Not sure. I'm not detecting any of their usual mystical occulty vibes.
