Sell My Soul Lyrics

Let's begin, I am ready, let's begin
Sell my soul to him
Shed my skin, I just wanna shed my skin
I don't wanna sell my soul to him
Mechanize, city bursts and farmers die
They cry
Sleep face down in a goods train heading south in the rain

In this world I often think you understand me
In these words I often think you'd recognise me
'Cos I just wanna swim with the fish in the sea
And I want faith to heal so that I can be clean

America's great now
If you don't talk back
You hide your face
Crawl in rubble and smile and scorn
At that snail-paced creature
Going up and down walls

Celebrate, I just want to celebrate
I'm not going to sell my soul to him
When you look right in

Cover art for Sell My Soul lyrics by Midnight Oil

According to what i learned sell my soul had to do with the Lost Generation and indiginous people of australia who faced colonization by biritain and persecution and economic presssure to modernize like in the song 'mechanize, city bursts and famers die'. Overall he cries for freedom and that he just wants to be himself and be free like a 'fish in the sea'.

Yes whatever101, u are right... Midnight Oil are so powerful with all of their songs, read their lyrics and you can see. Personally, this song brings back memories of being a teenager out for the night at a party with the girls and a girlfriend of mine said "NO" to her then boyfriend and he was pissed off... Later on that night we all sang "I'm not going to sell my soul to him" Thank gooodness she didn't, he wasn't worth it!!!!
