Like the rest of the song it is just one more way that on the surface he seems to do everything he should do to be glamours but then fails as a person.

It's the male version of Avril Lavigne's song "Complicated", as both characters in these songs try to be someone when they are with the narrators of the songs, and how they are someone else when they are with everyone else.
This song reminds me so much of my brother, some times. He's trying too hard to become someone he's not, focusing his energies in the wrong areas.
