I think this song is about being in love with someone that you either a) have no chance with or b) was already in a relationship with. "But it's too late and I know I'm making A fool, a fool of myself"-- you know there's no going back, but you can't completely rid yourself of the feelings that you had then, and you're really bad at hiding them from everyone around you.
