I read somewhere one of the band members (Fred Schneider, I guess) was once listening to the radio when a preacher spoke about the devil hiding everywhere, "even in your car". So the singer imagined what it would be like if the devil was in his car, in a literal sense.
Don't have a clue whether there's a sub-conscious meaning to this song, all I know is that it's an amazing song! Vocals are overpowering!
I do have to wonder if this was influenced a bit by AC/DC's Highway to Hell that came out the year before. American religious nutters were up in arms about that one.
