If You Must (Version 1) Lyrics
I can read, I can write
I can breathe, proven fact
Bless my greed, crease unfold
Is it me, or my ego
Write some words, make them rhyme
Pieces for, story line
Set the mood, something new
Is it me, or my attitude
If you want, to belong
And you miss, the extremes
The extremes, acted out
Practicing
Perfecting
Pressuring
Unto to me
I will wade, in the fire
To explain, your asylum
Idle times, analyzing
We'll compare, all our sightings, come on
I speak, to hear, my voice
I can breathe, proven fact
Bless my greed, crease unfold
Is it me, or my ego
Write some words, make them rhyme
Pieces for, story line
Set the mood, something new
Is it me, or my attitude
And you miss, the extremes
The extremes, acted out
Practicing
Perfecting
Pressuring
Unto to me
To explain, your asylum
Idle times, analyzing
We'll compare, all our sightings, come on

i think hes kinda talking about ppl like us who try to decipher song meanings. which is funny because it means kurt cobain was already making fun of this website before it even existed.
this song has a creepy guitar line.
I think this song is about how anyone can write a song, he's nothing original. It's all a pattern, all part of a process, and it doesn't mean anything anymore.
Very cynical song in my eyes.
i think this song is showing that they havwe the power to write about any song and say whatever they want about it and the title if you must basically shows that if you're that popular and you can write about anything why not write about how you make your music
i think hes kinda talking about ppl like us who try to decipher song meanings. which is funny because it means kurt cobain was already making fun of this website before it even existed. oh and also about writing songs...
This song is awesome. It sounds very well . The voice of kurt sounds very desperate. He sang it with a great passion, a passion that is very rare in a musician, and nowadays with all that good charlotte and yellowcard crap it is even harder to find.
He is singing about himself.
i think this song is about highschool. and how its so hard to fit yourself into it. how only the people are judgement on the way you are and look. at teh begingin of teh song, i imagined being looked over, liek when your writing something, a test or a poem or somthign, and people want to know what your doing, and you curl up so your paper is three inches form your face, and you turn away, with your knees up at your shoulders, sheltering yourslef as you write. i dunno. i may very well be wrong.
This song says that lyrics mean nothing at all, its the music, not the lyrics
uhh, i might be off, but i really thought the chorus was:
'If you want to put off, an image the extremes....'
