Wait (Secret Stars cover) Lyrics
Every town has a diner
Where I'll meet you
And your friends, too
Things are just a bit nicer over some coffee
You can tell me all about your day
I don't know much about you
Not that I want to
Not that I want to
Sometimes I can't escape from my room
So excuse me
I'll be just a little late
You will wait for me
You will wait for me
Every town has a corner
Where I'll see you
And your friends, too
Hang out, looking cool
Saying the same things
Over and over again
Sometimes we all feel stupid
We say the wrong things
You're not the only one
Sometimes we all get left behind
In a race of style
It's a dumb thing
You will wait for me
You will wait for me
You will wait for me
You will wait for me
Where I'll meet you
And your friends, too
Things are just a bit nicer over some coffee
You can tell me all about your day
I don't know much about you
Not that I want to
Not that I want to
Sometimes I can't escape from my room
So excuse me
I'll be just a little late
You will wait for me
Where I'll see you
And your friends, too
Hang out, looking cool
Saying the same things
Over and over again
Sometimes we all feel stupid
We say the wrong things
You're not the only one
Sometimes we all get left behind
In a race of style
It's a dumb thing
You will wait for me
You will wait for me
You will wait for me

It is fantastically awesome!
This song is simply fantastic.
this is song is like the most addictive song EVER.
i could listen to it all day. i think it's about being in love with someone but not really knowing who they are, and at the same time being annoyed with them because they're fake and distant and trying to act cooler than they are. and the person you love isn't okay with themselves, so you try to reassure them that it's okay and no one's perfect, blah blah blah. basically i think it's about having a whole bunch of different feeling for someone, and having waited for the 'real' them for a long time and now it's their turn to wait.
idk?
To me, it's not necessarily about any relationship or lost love, but I get a socially awkward vibe off of the main character of the song. I relate to certain lines here a lot and they really resonated with me. I feel like the song is about a person who doesn't go out all that much and someone who doesn't relate to the average person very much. He feels like most people are just trying to act cool and show off rather than strive for more meaningful friendships/relationships with people.
He is a guy that is introverted and doesn't go out much but he's trying to fit in with how other people socialize: going to diners, talking casually about nothing over coffee, no real meaningful conversations going on to the point where the main character of the song feels no connection and doesn't want to feel any connection. When you don't feel a connection with most people and stay with yourself a lot, you are cynical and never expect to really hit it off with anyone and you expect people not to really say anything that interests you. Such is the life of a socially awkward introverted person.
I really like the last 2 lines: "Sometimes we all feel stupid, we say the wrong things. You're not the only one. Sometimes we all get left behind in a race of style, it's a dumb thing."
I find the first line pretty comforting for someone who might be awkward and doesn't know what to say to people they don't know well. The 2nd line is just a repeat of the earlier subject of the average person just trying to one-up each other on who is more "cool" and "stylish" rather than forming any genuine chemistries with each other.
To me it's a nice philosophical way of lamenting how most people don't really have all that great social skills and they're all out for themselves. I am really surprised no one else came up with this interpretation because to me it was never about any particular failed relationship or love of a person or anything. It's just a general observation of the average person through the eyes of an introverted, perhaps even reclusive, person.
@jcjh20 I agree completely!! This song has nothing to do with love, I think maybe only introverted people see that? I feel though that the narrator, though definitely cynical, is more observational when it comes to his noticing of the character who waits for him hanging out with his friends. Instead of being critical toward the people who stand around on the corners looking “cool” with all their friends, I think he merely notices a separation between himself and them, a certain apathy and empty observation. I think this may be the reason why he wouldn’t care to know about...

You’ve really stated all my thoughts though, especially with the lyrics “Sometimes we all feel stupid,” those really strike a chord with me too, and give me major comfort. I love the themes in this song, how they are about a socialite seeking out and even waiting for the apathetic narrator, regardless of all his friends, his style, his position. There is definitely a balance between complete lack of care and extreme attentiveness, and the theme of going at life alone, and thats why the song is so perfect and gives me hope for all the people who have been left behind.
Agreed. This song is amazing.
Yeah, this song is very, very, very good.
i think this surpasses the original version!
this song says it all..." hanging out look cool. saying the same things over and over again "
This song always reminds me of my ex. Like were trying to be " friends " but yeah he was always gone when we were together and this song is like, yeah it's your turn now to wait. IDK it just works into how things are between us really well.
To me it always seemed like it was about the start of something new, but hes hesitant about it. But good song anyways.
