Turn The Page Lyrics
That's it, Turn the page on the day, walk away
Cos they're sensing what I say
I'm 45th generation Roman
But I don't know 'em
Or care when I'm spitting
So return to your sitting position and listen
It's fitting
I'm miles ahead and they chase me
Show yer face on TV, then we'll see
Yer can't do half, my crew laughs
At yer rhubarb and custard verses
Yer rain down curses but I'm waving,
Yer hearse is driving by
Streets riding high, with the beats in the sky
All stare, eyes glazed
Garage burnt down, the fire raged
For 40 days and in 40 ways
But through the blaze they see it fade
The sea of black, the beaming heat on their faces
Their figure emerges from the wasteage
Eyes transfixed with a piercing gaze
One hand clutching a sword raised to the sky
They wonder how, they wonder why
The sky turns white it all becomes clear
They felt lifted from their fears
They shed tears in the light
After 6 dark years
Young bold soldiers, the fire burns
Cracks and smoulders
5 years older and wiser
The fires are burning on fire, never tire
Slave warriors in the forests and on higher
We sing, hear the strings rising
The war's over, the bells ring
Memories fading, soldiers slaying
Looks like Geezers raving
The hazy fog over the bull ring,
The lazy ways the birds sing
A new babys born every day
Few men may be spoilt today
But look at things the other way
Cos it may well be yer final day
And then the crowds roar they slay, they all say
I produce this using only my bare wit
Gimme a jungle a garage beat and admit defeat,
Use war and past injury as my metaphor and simile
Get all applications into before the deadline
Cos it's a fine line between strife or crime
And a life of crime
But you will reach the day, and it's all mine
You can take it or leave, I shake
And reveal stage tricks like Jimi Hendrix
In the afterlife Gladiators meet their maker
Thrown through the wind fields and lakes of
Bluewater
To the next life from the fortress
Away from the knives and slaughter
To their wives and daughters
Once more before the law judges over all of us,
Cos in this place you'll see me,
Brace yourself, cos this goes deep,
I'll show you the secrets the sky and the birds
Actions speak louder than words
Stand by me my apprentice
Be brave, Clench fists.
Cos they're sensing what I say
I'm 45th generation Roman
But I don't know 'em
Or care when I'm spitting
So return to your sitting position and listen

i think he had a near-death experience and hes looking back on how he could have died really easily and life is just too short and cant be played with.
theres also alot of lyrics in it about war and soldiers, so possibly mike is rapping about war and dying and stuff.
theres a vibe of like the apocaylpse and stuff by the end of the song. a great intro to a great cd.
'I produce this using only my bare wit Gimme a jungle a garage beat and admit defeat'
It actually goes:
I'm miles ahead and they chase me Show yer face on TV, then we'll see Yer can't do half, my crew laughs At yer rhubarb and custard verses Yer rain down curses but I'm waving your hearses driving by
Meaning all the other garage MC's may as well give up because this is so much better.
i love this song, love the streets..love all the roman imagry.
i thought it was takin the piss out of the 'gangsta' scene.
When I hear turn the page (hence my screen name) i think of his life through a different, more artsy, type of perspective and from there he adds in his opinions on how far one person can come and how, as individuals, were capable of anything
I think Mike is talking about how how the same blood runs through his veins as the Roman soldiers that walked the same ground 2000 years ago- but he fights his battle with a microphone, and even though he doesnt "know 'em Or care when hes spitting" he still acts the same.
Not sure about my opinion on this song, but one things that does make me think is the way he mentions 2 british shopping centres, the Bull Ring, in Birmingham and Bluewater, in Kent.
you know, i dont really care what the song is about because it sounds so sweet. this was the first streets song i heard, and its still my favorite.
this is a really muddled up song, lyrics wise, but fuck its an awesome song again it was the first streets song i heard and i was all over it after that.
i think this song has loads of references to 'gladiator' & the 2nd world war. the 1st time i heard it that was my 1st thought. apart from teh obvious mention of 'gladiators', the forest, the fire, roman, warriors & sword raised to the sky bits all remind me of the scene where maximus fights the germans in the wood. 'before the lord judges over all of us' and 'through the cornfields and lakes of blue water' to meet his wife and daughter is like the closing scene where maximus is going to heaven and you see him walking throuh fields to his wife and son. 'soldiers', '6 dark years' and victory bells are like references to ve-day at the end of ww2 where all the church bells rang for victory after 6 years of war. dunno if any of that makes sense to you. i guess it's what you read into it yourself.
