A last fire will rise behind those eyes
Black house will rock, blind boys don't lie
Immortal fear, that voice so clear
Through broken walls, that scream I hear

Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come, come to your brother - Thou shall not die
Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

Blue masquerade, strangers look on
When will they learn this loneliness?
Temptation heat beats like a drum
Deep in your veins, I will not lie

Little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come, come to your brother - Thou shall not fly
Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

My Shangri-Las
I can't forget
Why you were mine
I need you now

Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come, come to your brother - Thou shall not fly
Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

This song is so good, and it's so powerful in the movie. One of the best movies and soundtracks ever. Rock on.

I know this doesn't have MUCH to do with the song...but did anyone else get the feeling that Kiefer never really died at the end of the film? o.O

    Think about it.

The lovable Frog Bros said that all vamps explode, or something, when they die.

When David (Kiefer Sutherland) was stabbed through the heart, it didn't happen.

And the song started playing. "Thou shall not die..."

I think it's interesting, really. Sorry for my ranting. :D Awesome movie, awesome song.

Gerard McMann/G. Tom Mac wanted the song to resonate with the Lost Boys movie but not be specifically about vampires. He had a copy of the script but had not seen any portion of the film. Per other sites (Wikipedia & song facts to name two) he wrote the song “about a rejected youth’s longing for family, something he felt nearly everyone can relate to on some level”. Interesting to read the interpretations that assumed vampirism was the subject, but I think it’s much more poignant when you take vampires out of it!

I believe that I would be extremely disappointed in my pledges if they needed to go on a website to figure out the meaning of this song and that if they still haven't figured it out then maybe some mandatory brotherhood bonding sessions are in order.

    My Interpretation

Never saw the movie. To me, it's a song of encouragement. The brother is telling his sister these things because she is lost in depression, maybe coming off drugs.

Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall (Cry, but don't go back to drugs or kill yourself)

Come, come to your brother - Thou shall not fly (Come to me, don't fly away on drugs or death)

Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear (I am consumed with your misery, get well so I can rest. Don't fear getting well)

Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill (Be with me, I love you, don't kill yourself)

The verses describe the darkness of the depression.

First off,Gerard McMann goes by the name G Tom Mac now. He released a new album in 2001 which contains an updated version of this song. The album itself is basically AOR type music, but its great.

Second, the second verse lyrics are wrong. It should go: Blue masquerade Strangers look on When will they learn This loneliness Temptation heat Beats like a drum Deep in your veins I'll live nine lives Little sister

One of the greatest songs ever written. Love the end scene of Kiefer impaled while the childrens chorus plays.

By the way,if you have never seen a pic of G Tom Mac,you gotta. He's rather dorky looking.

I think ya'll can tell that i like this song....well, there's a little something to how I first heard this song.

I'm a dancer and our recital was last night. The senior technique class did a dance called cry little sister. I was sitting with my mom in the audience till i had 2 go line up for my last dance. It sounded like a weird dance and I wasn't interested until it started. it started out with all the girls on the ground. It was a beautiful dance, just breathtaking. I didn't know that I knew the song until the first chorus. Then I realized it was the theme for the movie "The Lost Boys" i came home and found it on iTunes and bought it. ^_^

To SoulOnFire I agree on two levels. Yes, this is one of the greatest songs ever written and yes, the dude is interesting looking...

Personally, I believe the song is about maybe, a cult? A lot of people say it's about incestuous love, but I disagree. It sounds more like they're within a religion/cult/coven(because, you know, Vampires) that in a DNA related family. But thats just my oppinion!

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
