White Sister Lyrics
How can you say you love me
When you don't even love yourself
You live your life like a jagged knife
Just waiting on the shelf
How can you live for tomorrow
When you curse the night and day
The minutes pass through the hour glass
As you let them slip away
Do you love me
White sister
Do you love me when I play your game
Do you love me
White sister
Do you love me
When I call your name
How can you touch the sorrow
With a leather gloved hand
When you summon the winds of anger
Just as fast as you can
You crucify an orphan
With the rainbow in your eyes
Then you send out invitations
And address them with his cries
I, I don't even know what's right
I can say that you put up some kind of fight
I've been branded
I've been stranded
I'm so thankful for what I've been handed
I wish I could say that you're mine
Such a card game
[Instrumental brake]
Do you love me
White sister
Do you love me when I play your game
Do you love me
White sister
Do you love me
When I call your name
When you don't even love yourself
You live your life like a jagged knife
Just waiting on the shelf
When you curse the night and day
The minutes pass through the hour glass
As you let them slip away
White sister
Do you love me when I play your game
Do you love me
White sister
Do you love me
When I call your name
With a leather gloved hand
When you summon the winds of anger
Just as fast as you can
With the rainbow in your eyes
Then you send out invitations
And address them with his cries
I can say that you put up some kind of fight
I've been branded
I've been stranded
I'm so thankful for what I've been handed
I wish I could say that you're mine
Such a card game
White sister
Do you love me when I play your game
Do you love me
White sister
Do you love me
When I call your name

I'm not sure what this song is about, I just assumed it was about cocaine. I can't tell what it means from the lyrics, so I'm sticking with that. Great song, though.
One of Toto’s best rockers for sure. Crazy voice and guitar work by Bobby Kimball and Steve Lukather respectively. The lyrics are a bit cryptic. White sister is metaphorical and certain lyrical passages indicate a real darkness, perhaps an unhealthy affair, but what or who is the real subject? A femme fatale or the white powder? The lyric “you crucify an orphan with the rainbow in your eyes, then send out invitations and address them with his cries” indicates maybe a smoke show prostitute whose speciality is SM, which suggests more of the femme fatale angle. Then he says “wish I could say that your mine” indicating her captivating but oh so dangerous allure. This was written when the guys were young rising stars and exploring the offerings of the fast LA music scene. So we can fill in the blanks.
