One of My Lies Lyrics
When I was younger
I thought the world circled around me
But in time I realized I was wrong
My immortal thoughts turned into just dreams of a dead future
It was a tragic case of my reality
Do you think you're indestructible
And no one can touch you?
Well I think you're disposable
And it's time you knew the truth
Cause it's just one of my lies!
And all I wanna do is get real high
Why does my life have to be so small?
Yet death is forever
And does forever have a life to call its own?
Don't give me an answer cause you
Only know as much as I know
Unless you've been there once
well I hardly think so
I used to pray all night
Before I lay myself down
My mother said it was right
Her mother said it too...
Why?
I thought the world circled around me
But in time I realized I was wrong
My immortal thoughts turned into just dreams of a dead future
It was a tragic case of my reality
And no one can touch you?
Well I think you're disposable
And it's time you knew the truth
Cause it's just one of my lies!
And all I wanna do is get real high
Yet death is forever
And does forever have a life to call its own?
Don't give me an answer cause you
Only know as much as I know
Unless you've been there once
well I hardly think so
Before I lay myself down
My mother said it was right
Her mother said it too...
Why?

This isn't about lying. This is about how false the world is and is Billie Joe's thoughts on death and eternity. It's as religious as Green Day get - think about "Why does my life have to be so small? Yet death is forever And does forever have a life to call its own? "
and "Don't give me an answer cause you Only know as much as I know Unless you're been there once Well I hardly think so " It makes sense to me...
this song in my opinion is probably the best on that album. bought it the other day and i was blown away its so good.
you're right green dave
I think when he says " When I was younger I thought the world circled around me But in time I realized I was wrong My immortal thoughts turned into just dreams of a dead future It was a tragic case of my reality" its the best lyric they have ever wrote
what the hell? "and all i wanted was to get real high" is missing from the chorus!! HeLLO!! thats the best part of the song in my opinion cuz i can relate.
Heh, you make me laugh.

This is one of my favorite GreenDay songs. I also agree those are some good lyrics. This song is about Billie Joe being alone, right?
it's like when you realize for the first time that your father isn't invincible, but probably more closer to the point...when you realize for the first time that everyone is dispensible in the end...we die, someone else moves into our homes and throws our stuff in the garbage...and that there are limitations to life...and he realizes that his youthful arrogance and egotism is futile, but what's more...it's false
and bj realizes all this shit & realizes that ist just him, but everyone...everyone is a nobody and so he wants them to know it....but bj is screwing up....because he's being like an anti-holden caulfield, rather than just letting everyone reach for the golden ring & fail...he's pissed off & telling them how they can't reach for it because they'll fail
But this along with Going to Pasalaqua and One for the Razorbacks are probably my favorite songs of GD
^^i think that's exactly it...
and i like the Holden Caulfield comparison...cuz BJ is often compared to him, but by saying this you prove that he's not exactly the same...
and it really is a gr8 song....
Yeah, I can't read Catcher in The Rye anymore without thinking of Billie Joe!! Sad. This is a great song, yeah "eat shit", you're right, the get real high bit is the best! the lyrics are really good, especially as he was such a little baby when he wrote it. aaw
