I Remember The Weimar (ich Errinere Mich An Weimar) Lyrics
Pirate Jenny, she got her revenge
hey boys hats off to her.
Sally Bowles got her man, and he got really hurt. Yeah, me and my friends had some good ideas,
but i swear that town got so damn weird,
i got out in time in '39, i don't think I'll ever go back but i remember
Pirate Jenny let me off the hook for one drink I bought for her, and Sally Bowles used to look at me and sigh 'if you weren't so poor. . .'
there ain't no thing about the promise ring
and socialists are so boring,
just a bunch of bullies that I can't stand,
they got elected into office by who? You.
Die Weimar.
Pirate Jenny, she bought the bar,
now everybody works for her.
And Sally Bowles' 'Mein Herr' bit took off
and she's a star.
But the Bully Boys start sitting up in the front
and the doorman's taking tips and suggestions,
I'm getting in fights the places I used to play,
it's like walking through a mine field every day.
I remember Die Weimar.
I'm a fag, I'm a Jew, how do you do?
That's Mister Anarchist to you.
You think your scene's dead?
Well mine got killed by some dimwits'
Triumph Of The Will.
From the all ages shows,
to the full wet bars,
to the front line squats of your culture wars,
I ain't gonna hit you with the dogma or the lecturing, this has to be a purely personal thing.
You see, Pirate Jenny didn't have no friends
When those bulls they came for her, and
Sally Bowles' man got pushed up against the wall. Now everytime I see a Swiss bank I spit,
you say 'resist control' well I mean it,
'Cause it was come as you are in the cattle cars and there ain't a damn thing you can do about it, except remember,
Die Weimar.

Yeah, this song is pretty much about two related things. The first is the way that the Nazis cracked down on the cabaret bars of Weimar Germany once they rised to power. The second thing is the 1972 movie Cabaret, which is about the aforementioned crackdown. This is why Sally Bowles is mentioned as Sally is a character from the movie.
NOT REALLY, St Thomas. you forgot Threepenny opera for Pirate Jenny and Berlin Stories, the Christopher Isherwood book which Cabaret was based off of.
Nazi party=Nat'l Socialists
This was also around the time when Kurt Weill, a jew, fled Germany to avoid the impending jackboots of the Shutzstaffel.
Leni Riefenstahl's Nazi propaganda film, Triumph of the Will was also strong.
annnnd that's all I can think of at the moment.

Also Jack makes some winking references at todays punk scene along with all of the other stuff mentioned. The version on Addicted to Bad Ideas is pretty good though I like the original too.
queasy -- no shit. as if we didn't very the very, very, very obvious references. you are /such/ an intellectual.
Badherbs---why are you being rude over the internet?

As a matter of fact, I happen to be in love with this band, I'm only thirteen, and I didn't know anything queasy had said. So I was interested. It cleared up the songs meaning a lot.

Being a jerk virtually isn't cool. I thought I'd just point that out.
