By the side of the road
Just as the sky turned black
I took a walk with my fame
Down memory lane
I never did find my way back
And what will it hold for me
What am I gonna do while I'm looking at you
You're standing ignoring me
There's no time for running away now
Hey now! Hey now!
Feel no shame
As I walked through the door
Was a sign on the wall that read
It said you might never know
That I want you to know
What is written inside of your head
Won't be held in my hands
Or living inside of my skin
And as it fell from the sky
I asked myself why
Can I never let anyone in ?
There's no time for running away now
Hey now! Hey now!
Feel no shame
By the side of the road
Just as the sky turned black
I took a walk with my fame
Down memory lane
I never did find my way back
And what will it hold for me
What am I gonna do while I'm looking at you
You're standing ignoring me
There's no time for running away now
Hey now! Hey now!
Feel no shame

This has to be the most underrated Oasis song.
true i agree this is a great song
true i agree this is a great song

It's about how you choose to let your past define you. "Feel no shame, cos time's no chain."

I took a walk with my fame Down memory lane I never did find my way back
i always took this to mean that he looked back on his memories, and kind of became obsessed with them, and wanted to relive the good old days, before he was famous.

The song is about the band becoming famous and the things that happened to them.
In the first verse he is talking about the fame that they got so quickly. And finding it hard to get 'back down to earth' and communicate with other non famous people.
In th next two verses he is feeling the emotion that I would imagien all famous people feel. What else can I do? Is this my peak? And someone says to him 'there's no time for running away'.
Feel no shame is about not feeling guilty just because you are rich and succesful. It just happens to some people.
Then after that is just the same really. My favourite part of the sogn is 'as i feel from the sky i asked myself why can't i ever let anyone in' This is just talkign about how h started to find it how hard it is to trust people.
Good song.

This song is SO UNDERRATED. It's one of my favorites. The lyrics are just brilliant.

i think it means he is thinking about life before he was famous and also how he cant control time but i think often times oasis songs arent all about one thing as many great songs arent so you cant just base the entire song meaning on one lyric.

In my opinion, I hate it when people refer to tracks as "fillers," it simply shows how they don't appreciate certain music.
I LOVE this song, probably even more than Wonderwall. This song isn't completely underappreciated, and probably skipped by many of those playing the CD. Sad.... such a beautiful song.

I hitched a ride with my soul By the side of the road Just as the sky turned black I took a walk with my fame Down memory lane I never did find my way back
hmm.... maybe he became more spiritual when things got bad and he tried to remember life before fame and couldn't? I don't think that would be what they're saying but it's too many nouns to let me do this easily...

I took a walk with my fame Down memory lane I never did find my way back
i assumed that meant he cant figure out how he became famous
the rest of the song just seems to talk in generalities that apply to a lot of situations, something oasis is very good at. a relationship? a spiritual journey? random disjointed thoughts? you decide
still an awesome song

only 2 comments on this song? i'm surprised.
it's a brilliant song with a good sound to it.
