Damaged Goods Lyrics
The change will do you good
I always knew it would
Sometimes I'm thinking that I love you
But I know it's only lust
Your kiss so sweet
Your sweat so sour
Your kiss so sweet
Your sweat so sour
Sometimes I'm thinking that I love you
But I know it's only lust
The sins of the flesh
Are simply sins of lust
Sweat's running down your back
Sweat's running down your neck
Heated couplings in the sun
(Or is that untrue?)
Colder couplings in the night
(Never saw your body)
Your kiss so sweet
Your sweat so sour
Sometimes I'm thinking that I love you
But I know it's only lust
The change will do you good
I always knew it would
You know the change will do you good
You know the change will do you good
Damaged goods
Send them back
I can't work
I can't achieve
Send me back
Open the till
Give me the change
You said would do me good
Refund the cost
You said you're cheap but you're too much
Your kiss so sweet
Your sweat so sour
Sometimes I'm thinking that I love you
But I know it's only lust
The change will do you good
I always knew it would
You know the change will do you good
You know the change will do you good
I'm kissing you goodbye
(Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye)
I'm kissing you goodbye
(Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye)
I'm kissing you goodbye
(Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye)
I'm kissing you goodbye
(Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye)
I'm kissing you goodbye
(Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye)

this song is about the effects of capitalism of human relationships. people have become commodities for each other. the line "damaged goods, send them back" refers to the parallels between a broken person and a broken item in a store, they both get discarded. they're worthless. the change will do you good is another parallel to human beings and commerce, as it was swiped from a supermarket jingle at the time.
in conclusion, god bless socialism.

Don't be such a snob liza, the whole purpose of the site is to share what you think songs mean, so if someone doesn't understand it then don't shout (or write in capitals) at them. Having said that, the "sounds like bloc party" comment was kind of funny.
Jason's totally right, these guys are all big time Marxists. For some reason this song always reminds me of 'No Time To Be 21' by The Adverts. Another great tune.
Gang of Four > Bloc Party.
gang of four is greater than being greater than bloc party
gang of four is greater than being greater than bloc party
Gang of Four = Communist Party
Gang of Four = Communist Party
does no one realize that gang of four INFLUENCED bloc party? uhm, so it SHOULD sound like bloc party, but it shouldn't be counted against them.
you mean Bloc Party sounds like Gang of Four.... ya know... considering they wrote this song 20+ years before Bloc Party even formed as a band... :-)
this song is incredible..... the influence of this song, and this band, is mind-boggling.
Ummmm, bebra . . . "'damaged goods' is a euphemism for 'slut'"?
I would hope that, after hearing this song, you would realize your comment is another example of the dehumanizing effects of mass consumerism.
Jus sayin', sweetie.
lol, artmaven, you're wicked cool:):):):):):) Jus sayin' sweetie LOVE it:):):)
This song is about difficulties in dating older women. He's been with her a short while, had sex a few times, but realized she's bat shit crazy & damaged goods. Time to leave. The reason he never saw her body was cause it was at night with the lights out, because she is embarrassed by her saggy old body.
I love the bass at the beginning of this song. It almost doesn't sound like bass. Dave Allen is brilliant.
