Where We Would Be Lyrics

Tied - tied to a time
When we knew that the sun would shine
And you were all smiles
And we could just talk for a while...

Of where we would be when the future comes
And how you would paint while I wrote my songs

If I could find you
And tell you about my life
Or maybe just write
And remind you of when we would dream...

Of where we would be when the future comes
And how you would paint while I wrote my songs

Strange how you never become
The person you see when you're young

The guitar solo in this song tears my fucking heart out every time I listen to it.

I doubt the person he's talking about has died, there's no real hint at that and it works perfectly without a death involved. It seems to be about two close friends (most likely a guy and a girl) who became separated in one way or another because one of them or even both of them began to change. I've been there as I'm sure most people have and it sucks.

I get the idea that their split wasn't exactly friendly, perhaps he tried to hang on while watching her go through changes that led up to her ditching him completely. Despite this, he still cares for her and years later, after not seeing her in so long, he is reminded of her and wonders if she too misses what they had and if she'd be willing to bring it back.

okay, this is a very sad song for me, it happened to me and a girlfriend i had. The coincidence its just amazing, and very sad. Well im a drummer and pianist, and my girlfriend like to paint and draw pictures and we use to sit toghether while i practice and she made pictures and drawings and think where we would be in the future.... We met at school and we where very happy, but we got older and older, she started to change till we break up, and it was very hard for me. I havent seing her for about 2 years, and thats exactly what sometimes i say to my self:

"If I could find you And tell you about my life Or maybe just write And remind you of when we would dream... of where we would be when the future comes"

it just fit in perfectly that makes me want to cry...

I agree, this song is very sad. The bicycle-ring-sound at the beginning does make me feel that there are two young friends. Along with the lines "Strange how you never become the person you see when you're young". The first few lines portray the sense of secrutiy children have (" Tied - tied to a time When we knew that the sun would shine And you were all smiles"). Great song.

Sleeper... you have described, down to the last word, EXACTLY what I'm worried about happening in my life. I'm not an adult yet (still at school), but I'm worried that in many years to come the exact same thing will happen. It's like this song is describing what I don't want to see myself as in ten years time. Strange. Great song though.

I immediatly thought of Steve and a Girlfirend when they were young, "How you would paint while i wrote me songs" Both of them had creative talent, but in the end they lost eachother and only steve made it. I love this song- i also thought of Duffy.

the sleeper had a kickass definition, but the reason i came on here was because i was thinking exactly what {service to busy} said. A girl who had tremendous artistic talent along side steve, "how u would paint while i wrote my songs," and them wondering if it would always be like this. the song is, i would guess, him remembering this and now knowing that it's not gonna be that way forever. steven wilson is a genius.

So beautiful and sad, there should be a lot more comments for this song, I think that's the biggest tragedy. A story of two people who use to care for each other, have (for one reason or another) lost contact, and the narrator remembering how they use to dream of how life would be when they got older, and how it ended up totally different.

This song is so sad to me.

I think it is directed at a childhood friend who is being missed by the narrator. He wants to see this person again to catch up on old times and just talk about how life is now.

"Strange how you never become The person you see when you're young"

This is the part that gets me thwe most because it is so true...

Maybe the person died......? "Strange how you never become the person you see when you're young".

Steve became a song writer. What happened to his friend? Death? Didn't achieve the goals? :\ Very sad indeed.
