Is it "under this 'mess' and idiot prayer" or "under this 'mass' and idiot prayer"?
Or would "mass" be more appropriate than "mess"?

A change-up with this lyrical device as the Heavens do tend to reflect by nature as the vista of flaming insects is representation of what is opposite in device.

Darkness may follow the light in smoke if not a force in natural opposition as "scarring the sky" (essence before midnight, after evening)-so we may have repetition in device to work with. Black represents the waters in opposition to light, the following midnight..Rust device.

Sounds smart as bomb and bone can oppose (pomegranate roots) as the term "thin-air" may represent tension by opposition. I earnestly believe the term relates "under this mass and idiot prayer." Tension compares to Star of Darkness composition by Kikuta Hiroki of Squaresoft's the Secret of Mana.
