Sever Lyrics
Telepath Carbon trapped under stone
Brother mother pale body is thrown
Only way I know to have fun
Fill up my blood, my veins, my lungs
ESP city - rainy and blue
Burn down this town, I give it to you
Aero shallow, photograph blind
Stage fright, black light, coma divine
No sense of time
Sever tomorrow
Exitless mind - ESP Sever tomorrow
School out invective, losing my voice
Film shredding on in multiple choice
America calls, I must go
Oprah saviour, I feel that low
Brother mother pale body is thrown
Only way I know to have fun
Fill up my blood, my veins, my lungs
Burn down this town, I give it to you
Aero shallow, photograph blind
Stage fright, black light, coma divine
Sever tomorrow
Exitless mind - ESP Sever tomorrow
Film shredding on in multiple choice
America calls, I must go
Oprah saviour, I feel that low

IMHO this version of the song is overshadowed by "Sever Tomorrow", the demo version available on "Insignificance".
sever tomorrow is essentially the same, the lyrics are a bit different though...
What is exactly that ESP city?
@Wakeboard_Snufkin Extrasensory perception (ESP), also referred to as the sixth sense, is the ability to perceive information with the mind without relying on the normal physical senses.

Great song and i love that "The only way to survive is on your knees, muahahahah...". But there is a voice after that, does anyone know what it says?
Well ESP could be an acronym for extra sensory perception, which would make some sense seeing as telepath is just telepathy. But other than that...
Very good song. I'm still trying to find out what ESP means...

I love this song, but every time I hear them say "ESP" in the chorus I hate it, it sounds too much like they're trying to squeeze it in where it isn't needed..lol maybe i'm just being picky but that actually spoils the song for me =|
@jeems 'ESP' refers to Extra Sensory Perception known in the parapsychological science as the Sixth Sense, the song is really referring to Nothing but has a secret meaning. I believe this song has almost everything to do with ESP because most of it makes sense to ESP

I love the way the verses sound in this song. It kinda reminds me of foreign music strangely enough...
Anyway, very catchy. I find myself singing this a lot.
What makes special this song is the melody, particularly in this song I dont really care to much about the lyrics and the meaning, the melody stays on your head for a long long time, in fact the verse melody is the one that is the more ambiguous, is b/c this vocal melody was written based on quartal harmony, (in 4ths), Zappa used this concept a lot!
I wonder if this is Steven's first attempt at conveying alienation of a teenager in the modern world. Work he would continue on 'Fear of a Blank Planet'.
