Always Never Lyrics
I feel no pain
Cause I'm an island
I will remain
In the deafness of your silence
I love you sometimes
Always Never
He said you're here
Here with me now
I feel no gain
When you're around me
I'll try again
In the darkness you astound me
It's growing cold
I'm growing old
Is this the only way to see the fire?
It's raining...
Cause I'm an island
I will remain
In the deafness of your silence
Always Never
He said you're here
Here with me now
When you're around me
I'll try again
In the darkness you astound me
I'm growing old
Is this the only way to see the fire?
It's raining...

I feel that this song is about a love which has gone and is hopeless. The narrator is wondering in his own delusion and has lost connection with reality because he is really wanting to rekindle a love which can never exist.
@dranthonyc Yes. They probably don't speak anymore, and when are around, the narrator knows the connection they had is somehow gone. But it's growing old, the pain has faded. Only the delusion of them loving each other remains as a memory, and the dissonance of reality, maybe even narrator's own confusion.. I think that's what the oxymoron is about.

So meditative, even when it becomes more "noisy". I think that this is very close to the way I see love in my life as well.
love before sex , loss of love after sex, feeling lonely, depressed afterwards.
I don't really like my old theory anymore, i have a new one. I think now its about a persons relationship with Jesus. Someone who has distanced themselves from feeling.
@Service to busy can definitely see where you are coming from with this prospective ... I think the line that probably gives most credence to your interpretation is "He said you're here".

If it was a romantic relationship I would generally assume it would be "she" not "he".

I think this song is about a different sort of love. This is sensual love at its pinncale. This is being so into someone to the point that they don't even matter... you just kind of flow... just exist... but then when the lights go down the sexual connection is so erotic, so intense that it is just an explosion. Like (I don't know the word but) when in a movie they just flip through a lot of sequences of pictures really quick... like a flip book like when a flower comes into bloom but sped up and then they show something else and something else and something else... Like that really hot and sweaty, hot day of summer, in a hot shower, in a hot room... all at once could tear the skin off the other person (not literally)... movie type... and then you both go about doing your own thing because it all just clicks... you never have to say I love you or worry about stress or worry about bothering the other person you both do your own thing and enjoy what the other has to say... totally meshing... wow. I love this song... The bells at the end sound like a chinese wind chime... very chi? Haha...
The name of the song is very interesting and i think this song is about someone with a personality disorder wich makes relationship very difficult,it's like today i love you, tomorrow maybe i'll hate you(always/never).
I feel no pain Cause I'm an island (alienation) I will remain In the deafness of your silence (estrangement)
I love you sometimes (maybe?) Always Never (it's false) He said you're here (who's he?) Here with me now (let's imagine the narrator)
I feel no gain When you're around me (straightforward) I'll try again In the darkness you astound me (sex? or maybe metaphorical darkness referring to distance and separation)
It's growing cold I'm growing old Is this the only way to see the fire? It's raining...
(this WHOLE verse could be another song - it's probably, save the first two lines of the song, the most meaningful to me... it's about realizing how close death is, how letting go, how losing things ...is it the only way to fully appreciate it all? and the fire's going out when it's all too late... it's raining... depressing as hell)
That's quite an interesting line:
I love you sometimes, always, never
In which album can I find this track ? I've found it quite interesting and I want so much to listen to it somehow...
It's on Up the Downstair.
