One Summer Dream

This is one of ELO's best songs it is very beautiful. Jeff Lynne's voice is great on this song. the Band does a great job backing him up, ELO are a GREAT band and very underrated.

In the liner notes for the 2006 reissue of this album, Jeff Lynne indicates that this is an anti-war song. If so, it's a very oblique one. :-)

The beginning just brings tears to my eyes. I think of it as a superb lost love lyric. I love ELO. Such a gorgeous ephemeral song.

Once in a warm summer, you were in love, but it was all in vain. In the light of eternity, in the books of nature, it was not written that your love would be answered. Now your path through life isn't clear anymore. You only can feel one thing: the warm winds of summer and then you will remember your love, like other sensitive persons do. But life goes on, and you float through your days in melancholy. Always a tear in your eye.

Wow, I am a fan of ELO, but I do not remember this song... so beautiful! haunting... like a warm drowsy afternoon, it feels like it will last forever but in the back of your mind you know summer won't last and winter will come...

Only an older man can fully appreciate the meaning of this song. It is about a time in a young man's life which was there for a brief moment and then it's gone. Mom and dad are no more today. All I have are my kid brother, wife, daughter, and our first grandchild. Although a man can never reclaim his youth, God willing he may enjoy many more summers to come.
