Crossroads Lyrics

I went down to the crossroads, fell down on my knees.
I went down to the crossroads, fell down on my knees.
Asked the Lord above for mercy, "Save me if you please."

I went down to the crossroads, tried to flag a ride.
I went down to the crossroads, tried to flag a ride.
Nobody seemed to know me, everybody passed my eyes.

I'm going down to Rosedale, take my rider by my side.
I'm going down to Rosedale, take my rider by my side.
You can still barrel house, baby, on the riverside.

You can run, you can run, tell my friend-boy Willie Brown.
Run, you can run, tell my friend-boy Willie Brown.
That I'm standing at the crossroads, believe I'm sinking down.

Well, I found out this song is in fact a cover for the Crossroads Blues by Robert Johnson. I guess this song IS in fact about meeting the Devil at the crossroads and selling your soul to him so that you can play the guitar.

Your right scooter, Cream is one of my favorite bands of all time. Do you have any idea what this song means? I know Cream was essentially an electric blues band, and the crossroads is a reoccuring theme in blues music. For example, Robert Johnson, one of the greatest blues musicians of all time sold his soul to the Devil at the crossroads. Could Cream's song have anything to do with that?

first time I heard this was when Eddie Van Halen did an instrumental cover of it, I found it from Kazaa. quality guitarwork.

there was a movie called Crossroads, it is about "guitar dueling" or something like that. i haven't seen it but that's what i recall from the plot outline.

I love this song. Clapton is my hero. I've learned so much from his music. I actually prefer this version to Rob Johnson's.

The movie is so cheesy, it's hilarious.

About the solos, I can think of a bunch of solos better than Stairway's. And a handful better than this.

But that's not to disparage either song.

Gimpy, the song is indeed about Johnson selling his soul to the Devil. The urban legend it that Robert Johnson had sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for his virtuoso guitar skills.
