The love line is never straight and narrow
Unless your love is tried and true
We take a chance with new beginnings
Still we try (Oooh)
Win or lose (Oooh)
Take the highs (Oooh)
With the blues (Oooh)
Always one more
You're never satisfied
Never one for all with you
It's only one for me
Oh, why draw the line?
Meet you half the way
And you don't know what that means
Oh, yeah
I feel like a running politician
Oh! Just tryin' to please you all the time
I given you my self with no conditions
Goin' wide (Oooh)
Runnin' long (Oooh)
Feelin' lost (Oooh)
But not for long (Oooh)
Always one more
You're never satisfied
Never one for all with you
It's only one for me
So, why draw the line?
Meet you half the way
When you don't know what that means
Whoa, yeah
(Guitar Solo)
Always one more
You're never satisfied
Never for all with you
It's only one for me
So, why draw the line?
Meet you half the way
When you don't know what that means
I'll meet you half the way
Whoa yeah!
I'll meet you half the way
Whoa!
I'll meet you half the way
Unless your love is tried and true

Van Hagar is right on. All due respect, DragonKnight, but are you fucking kidding me? Maroon 5? Van Halen is a band that thrives on skill and hard rock, while Maroon 5, though they have a couple of half-decent hits, are a fucking pop music-based band. There should be a law against comparing great bands like Van Halen with shit bands like Maroon 5. Where are Maroon 5 now, by the way? They are fast fading, fucking flavors of the week. Van Halen started in '73 and lasted all the way to 1998, with sporadic performances after that. Maroon 5 have only got, what, two albums? How many times have Van Halen gone multi-platinium? Maroon 5 can't even spell the word "platinium".
But Maroon 5 is no worse than cock-sucking, ass-licking, uncle robert-auntie suzie-fucking posers modern "rock" bands like Nickleback, three doors down, lifehouse, creed, etc. How dare they shame and whore the name and spirit of rock music by calling their lame-ass, all-riff-no-skill-or-drum/bass/guitar solos songs ROCK? I'm not kidding but i can outplay all the guitarists of all these modern "rock" bands any time of the day, with one hand tied to my back. Talentless fucks.
As for what the song means, I don't know. Thanks.
Love,
Eddie Truck Halen
this is exactly what i have been saying my whole life, I'm glad someone out there agrees finally!!

I think this is just a straightforward love/conflict song. However, it's one of my favorite songs of all time. The guitar work is brilliant throughout. There may be a better guitar mixed with voice rock song out there, but I haven't heard it.
Check out Led Zepplin then. Their my most favorite band of all time. Or else Maroon 5. But this song kicks serious ass. It's the first song I heard from Van Halen years ago and it still rocks today.
This song is amazing and 5150 might just be my favorite Van Halen album, Sammy rocks out... To even compare a band lie Maroon 5 to Van Halen is beyond ridiculous... In fact, it should be considered an insult to all things ridiculous....
The album was named after Eddie's Peavey 5150, but not sure about the song
@IRoxYerSox .....Eddie actually named the album after his studio he built. This was years before he was ever affiliated with Peavey. 5150 is a police code in Los Angeles meaning being detained against ones will in fear they may harm themselves. Hence....insanity or crazy.

The Peavey 5150 didn't come out until 1992, the song was written in 1985-1986, so im think'n your wrong.
His home studio is named 5150 after the LA police code for crazy people. He named the song 5150 because to him it represented what the "new band" was all about concerning sound and substance. And by new band I mean the band fronted by Sammy.
If you didn't know, 5150 has a double meaning.
With the "always one more, you're never satisfied" thing, you know, 51%/50%
5150 is also the police code for "armed robery in progress"
again, "you're never satisfied"
That's wrong. The album 1984 was recorded in 5150. It was built out of frustration with Roth about their musical direction, particularly how Roth didn't approve of all the keyboards.
actually this song was a demo called 'It Takes Two' back in 1983 that Eddie wrote for Michael Jackson. acko's song writting team didnt like the 'rock' sound so they didnt use it. the lyrics were a bit different but the overall idea is the same.
Thank you SRV Blues! Finally someone who agrees that these new so called rock bands are fucking shit. Everyone always says I'm just not accepting newer and better bands, I tell them to shut the fuck up after they can't even name a few fucking classic rock songs. Pisses me of so much . . .
That felt good.
