Out Of Time Man Lyrics
I'm walkin' out for love
I'm walkin' bad really down
Like a cool breeze
I'm gonna be late again
« Driver ! Wait for me please ! »
I'm runnin' all in vain
Tryin' to catch
This fuckin' train
« Time don't fool me no more »
I throw my watch to the floor
It's so lazy
« Time don't do it again »
Now I'm stressed and strained
With anger and pain
In the subway train
REFRAIN :
(Now it's half past two)
Long gone the rendez-vous
(Now it's half past three)
Time made a fool out of me
(Now it's half past four)
Oh baby can't you see
No use in waiting no more
It's a timing tragedy
I think it's nine
When clock says ten
This girl wouldn't wait
For the out of time
Out of time man
« Time don't fool me no more »
I throw my watch to the floor
It's so lazy
« Time don't do it again »
Now I'm stressed and strained
With anger and pain
In the subway train
(REFRAIN)
I think it's nine
When clock says ten
This girl wouldn't wait
For the out of time
Out of time man
(REFRAIN) (4X)

it's just about being late to a date.
It's probably just about missing a date, but as depression has turned me into a sad egocentric pile of misery, to me it's about someone who has lived a great deal of his life without any sense of direction. As the years pass, he starts getting more and more uncomfortable with the emptiness he's experiencing and seeks for something to hold onto (sex, drugs, whatever) to make him feel good... Ultimately, he finds that this does not kill the emptiness but he realizes it's too late to make a change. He's too depressed and empty to gather up the (emotional) strength to make a choice and actually lives in the past while the world around him has moved on.
A timing tragedy.
Agree. Same here. It's about somebody who runs out of time, it's too late for him, "Long gone the rendezvous" Long gone the chances. He tries to run, but he can never catch up with the time.

I think it’s about a guy who thinks he’s late in loving someone, and that time is always making him nervous about him being to late to love someone, to old. And that everyone his age is already loved by somebody, making him feel left out. He then dedicates his whole life to trying to find someone alone and his age, hence “I’m walking out for love”. He try’s and try’s, but can’t find anyone. While this is happening, he always has the thoughts of him racing the clock, before it’s to late. He eventually gives up, and talks to himself about everything he wished happened if he were with an individual, saying to just forget it all and that the clock defeated him.
I love this song, one of the best of Mano Negra imho, more Manu Chao style than Mano Negra actually. I think it's about knowing the time getting him stressed, so he lives without it (I throw my watch to the floor), but that gets him into other trouble (missing the rendez-vous with the girl).
