Is It Alright Lyrics

Dear Jo, don't know where to begin so I'll just say hello
Dear Jo, is it so much better now you're on your own

You never believed in yourself
So now that you're free does it help

Chorus:
Is it alright, now that you've got what you want
And is it alright, now that you're back where you belong

Dear Jo, are you livin' it up every place you go
Dear Jo, if you're havin' a hard time it sure don't show

You couldn't hold on in your mind
Now is it OK is it fine

Chorus: repeat

Dear Jo, can you believe that it's been so long
Dear Jo, just thought I'd write and let you know

You never believed in yourself
But now that you're free does it help

Chorus: repeat

This song will always remind me of Joann, a girl I knew in college. We were "just friends," and, although I offered to be more than that to her, she seemed to far prefer the guys who treated her like crud. When I hear this song, I wonder where she ended up, and if she ever found a guy that really made her happy.

This one didn't make the best-of's, and that seems about right, since when you read those lyrics...yeah, not one of Lynne's best. There aren't exactly enough words there to elevate it from pedestrian bitterness to profundity.

Stlll, toss the killer synth hooks against that, and it's at least a little bit of a tough call.

ELO is brilliant. Just watched Nymphomaniac Vol. 1 and definitely adding this to my playlist of the movie, even though the beats and rhythm seem a bit anachronistic/unsuitable to the film and its moods. Hoping it'll work in an ironic sense.
