Sounds like this Maybellene gal is a whore or something. Probably that's her thing. The lyrics got rhythm itself.

One great song once again by Chuck Berry. Got to love the reference to drag racing in the 50s. Fords and Cadillacs. Must have been a good time to drive in those days. Maybellene must have been a sexy gal.
Absolutley great hot rod and romance song full of Chuck B's trademark wit and pathos.

Acually its not about drag racing, more a one on one road race, with the prize for cathching up with the woman is that she'll go out with him again. If he hadn't caught her, the relationship was toast. Note the begining: "motivating over the hill," drag racing isn't done on hills. For a very different theme, but the same time of race, see "Hot Rod Lincoln," or for humor "The Little Nash Rambler"
