Outside World Lyrics
There's a wind on the eastern side
Ghost gums dance in the moonlit night
Mopoke mourns the racketeers
The bosses they can sense your mood
All in place to a hand that rules
They all want to deal you out
I can see the outside world
Everything's inviting in the outside world
Leaving all my problems in the outside world
Nothing's gonna touch me in the outside world.
It's the summer of another year
A little world weary a little more to fear
Hold those cards tight to your chest
Maybe someday you could be a man
Living quietly in a caravan
Not the Lismore road tonight
Ghost gums dance in the moonlit night
Mopoke mourns the racketeers
The bosses they can sense your mood
All in place to a hand that rules
They all want to deal you out
Everything's inviting in the outside world
Leaving all my problems in the outside world
Nothing's gonna touch me in the outside world.
A little world weary a little more to fear
Hold those cards tight to your chest
Maybe someday you could be a man
Living quietly in a caravan
Not the Lismore road tonight

Great song. I remember this song coming out when I was a kid, and the album 10 to 1 staying at number one in Australia for over 50 weeks.
Here's a crack at what it means...
It's not easy starting out with not much behind you. The outside world is the world of the bosses and the well to do. A card reference - the cards are good for them to stay where they are, and bad for you.
Another year is another year of hard work trying to get somewhere. Another card reference - keep your cards hidden to try and maximize you hand.
I've always loved the line "Maybe someday you could be a man Living quietly in a caravan". Living in a caravan (RV) is a cheap way of living in Australia, although it is not conventional. Maybe he or she could take this option to be free of the burden of work and debt.
