I'm Comin' Home Lyrics
Packed my suitcase and I racked my brain
Bought a ticket on a late night train
Took a taxi through the pourin' rain
I'm comin' home to you
Flew from Boston out to San Jose
Sae our old friends in Monterey Bay
When they asked me if I'd like to stay
I said I'm comin' home to you
CHORUS:
I'm comin' home
Made up my mind that's what I'm gonna do
Can't love nobody on the telephone
I'm comin' home to you
They threw a party there from dusk 'till dawn
Seems like everybody knows old sleepy John
He said next time I better bring you along
I'm comin' home to you
They had fresh caught salmon on the bareques
There were people jammin' all night to the blues
Life is good out in Santa Cruz but
I'm comin' home to you
CHORUS
I drove forever out to God knows where
Come ten-thirty there was no one there
They couldn't pay me but I didn't care
I'm comin' home to you
I'm feelin' better since I got your card
I read it over and over when the road gets hard
Ain't nothin' better than your own backyard
I'm comin' home to you
CHORUS x 2
Packed my suitcase and I racked my brain
Bought a ticket on the late night train
Took a taxi in the pourin' rain...…

This reminds me of every time I come home from college. The Gringo Honeymoon version is good...the Live No.2 is classic.
I love this song.
In addition to simply being a beautiful song, REK mentions the city I was born in, the town where I grew up (San Jose and Santa Cruz, California, respectively), the radio station I listened to when I was little (KPIG), and the KPIG DJ who lived down the street from me when I lived in Santa Cruz (Sleepy John).
By the way, there's a mistake in the lyrics. It's not "They threw a party," it's "Pig threw a party...." "Pig" is the nickname for the radio station mentioned above.
This song has always had a really special place for my wife and I. We began a long distance relationship while she lived in the exact location mentioned in the song... San Jose/Santa Cruz. In that period, i became a huge fan of KFAT and after that, its' sucessor KPIG, both of which Sleepy john worked at. He was originally a DJ, then station Manager. Totally a cool dude and a major pioneer of music that wasn't top 40 and was targeted to the " Old hippie and bluegrass/ folk country style of stuff and REK was a hugely accepted force once I was living out there and relying on KPIG for my home radio station.
I guess i don't see any symbolic or other meanings here. Just an understandable description of what it's like to be on the road and missing your soulmate and best friend. Not only have I lived this, I just so happened to be involved with the same geogarphic spots as I lived in Texas (like REK) and my wife lived in the Santa Cruz area.
Alwatys reninds me of her, our relationship, and how true love becomes more important that going out to make a deal, or do a gig, or any other method of how we wind up apart from our love and how we look forward to "Coming Home"
peace all
This song is bull sh*t. All I hear is la la la la la la la. Just repetition. And I don't know Mr. Keen.
