Brainville Lyrics
I've heard about a place
Where they enlarge your space
Don't cost you very much
They seem to know their stuff
They take pity on the small ones
So I want to go to Brainville
Let's get in
And overcome my inexperience
I want to go to Brainville
Let's get in
And be the first one on the block that does
They say it's the one thing everyone should have
I know it must look bad
I know I need the help
They'd take me I can tell
Four fingers and a toenail
I want to go to Brainville
Let's get in
And overcome my inexperience
I want to go to Brainville
Let's get in
And be the first on the block that does
Da da da da da da da da da da
Where they enlarge your space
Don't cost you very much
They seem to know their stuff
They take pity on the small ones
So I want to go to Brainville
Let's get in
And overcome my inexperience
I want to go to Brainville
Let's get in
And be the first one on the block that does
They say it's the one thing everyone should have
I know it must look bad
I know I need the help
They'd take me I can tell
Four fingers and a toenail
I want to go to Brainville
Let's get in
And overcome my inexperience
I want to go to Brainville
Let's get in
And be the first on the block that does
Da da da da da da da da da da

people on this website think every lips song has to be about drugs. geez.
anyway, I read in an interview when the album came out that this song arose out of a comical idea that wayne (or one of his brothers or friends, I can't remember) had one day...the idea was that they would create a fictional college, Brainville University, and advertise it in the newspaper. When people showed up to to enroll in the college, the people in on the scam would beat up the poor schlub and steal their money.
This song was born out of that musing, but deep down I think wayne's message is you don't really need higher education to be a complete person, and that people who feel they HAVE to go to college are being sadly misled.
I just want to say that this makes complete sense to me. Whenever I feel disgusted with college (which is kind of often), I just listen to this song on my way to class. It helps me take things less seriously.

Why has no one commented!
Anyway, I think it's about LSD
"Enlarge your space" is a pretty common feeling on the drug, it doesnt' cost much and it definatly makes you feel "inside your brain"
i always thought this song was about purposely trying to get admitted to a mental hospital.. but now i look at the lyrics properly that idea' s kinda dumb
I think this song is making fun of college and how our society lies to itself about it's significance.

I agree, definitely about drugs. Then he talks about how the general public looks down on such behavior. "They'd take me I can tell" They = Rehab. "Four fingers and a toenail" = Cost of rehab. But he doesn't care and continues with his ways... wonderful tune.
adding that I agree this about college. Before seeing the comments, I thought it was about going to some happy state of mind where it might not seem that great, but once you're there it's pretty good and best thing overall
