Vielleicht bedrückt sie was

Title: The idea is great but the world not ready yet

Do go to the train station in the so-called springtime say "Hello" to a stranger who comes off a train buy him a coke in the cafeteria vis-a-vis perhaps he has some problems and wants to talk about them

probably he has no time at all the idea's great but the world not ready yet

do drive by bike in a different urban area say "Hello" to a girl who has overlooked you at first buy her ice-cream stracciatella or nut perhaps she's depressed by something she needs to talk about

probably she has no time at all the idea is great but the world not ready yet

yesterday, at half past two a.m. I made a song and I call a friend in the middle of the night And I sing it to her through the phone and it says "I love you" shortly before I hang up I feel ashamed

probably she has no time at all the idea is great but the world not ready yet"

tocotronic - the idea is good

go to a station in the so called spring again, say hello to a stranger who steps out of a train. invite him for a coke, on the snack bar straight ahead, maybe he's got problems and wants to talk about that.

probably he has not time i bet, the idea is good but the world isn't ready yet.

ride with your bicycle to another part of the city, say hello to a girl which maybe doesn't think you're pretty. invite her for an icecream, cuja mara split, maybe she's got problems and wants to talk 'bout that.

probably she has no time i bet...

yesterday at half past three, there was another song to write, so I called up a girlfriend in the middle of the night. and i sing it through the telephone and it says: "i love you", after i lay up, i'm quite in a moody blues.

probably she has no time i bet...

these are the lyrics from the "international" version of the song, tocotronic released a couple of english versions of their songs, i think even a whole cd with translated lyrics.

anyway, the meaning: the singer describes how people grow cold; they don't have the time for conversation (he's not talking about smalltalk), a friendly, open attitude, people seem too "closed up". in the last stanza he calls a/his girlfriend but is unable to express his feelings towards her, he himself has become unable to express his feelings towards her and he is ashamed of that. (at least in the german version, in the int. version he's just sad)

i've studied in germany (6 years) and this song is best at describing the germany i've experienced. this is the best german song i've ever heard.

the (german) lyrics are a lot better than the beatles' eleanor rigby, the message is the same...

This song describes felling of man, who is alone in the big city. But is too afraid of the world to do anything about it.
