I think this is kind of like 'every breath you take' its not a love song at all. not the line 'you will see' 'you will see' 'youa nd me, you and me'. Ever had a crush? its like turning someone into a religion, a drug. its got nothign to do with love, its more sinister than that.

What kicks me about the last verse is that not only is it religious symbolism, it's death symbolism (blood in a cup, the river Ganges, a light). So he's saying "I will be where you go when you die." Thats the best kind of romantic.

I think this is a beautiful song, but something makes me think there is a deeper meaning to it.

The line: "I'll eat the lotus and peyote."

• was the first thing that made me doubt the otherwise so obvious meaning.

There’s just something about the last verse I can’t put my finger on.

I don't see why, Psilocy. I honestly think this is just a very moving love song.

Isn't lotus one of those magical/myth things in the old timey greek religions? Peyote is the same sort of thing to Indians (Well, it IS a hallucinogen...).

The last stanza is pretty much just saying, "I'll be all those things you worship."

Like you said, it's obvious... I don't see anything more to it.

Well, both the lotus and peyote are hallucinogens.

I just find it hard to believe the sentence "I'll eat the lotus and peyote" is in a sweet love song like this, without a meaning to it. (Don’t take this the wrong way, I’m not saying that hallucinogens are bad.)

Perhaps I’m just over-interpreting the lyrics.

I would of said it was a love song, just an odd one at that.

But recently a friend of mine pointed out the hidden yet clear references to jesus ( Iknow I'm not religous either) but he does have a point. I'll only give you 3 examples but others are there.

1. I want to be your easter bunny I want to be your chritstmas tree. Both refering to holidays that are hidden celebrations of the birth and death of christ.

2. I want to wash you with my hair. Is about mary madaline and how she washed his feet and dried it with her hair.

and last and not least...

3. I'll be the cup if you should bleed. is a reference to the last supper when they usually say the wine and bread is the blood and body of christ.

Again I'm not a holly roller but it does give it a cool hidden depth.
