The little backing-vocal undertone of "And I don't mean that rude..." after every "Lick my candy, girl" isn't enough to convince you that the song's tongue is firmly in its cheek? Fair enough. Personally, it makes me smile every time I hear it.
I hate this song. I used to be really into Babybird until I realised some of his songs are utter garbage. This has the crudest and most unimaginative sexual connotation I've heard in a song for a long time, and is one of the major weaknesses in the songwriting of Steven Jones or however the hell it's spelt. Bands like The Pogues told it straight when mentioning sexual activity in their songs, whereas Mr. Jones has to resort to badly covered-up and unfunny innuendo. No one cares if she 'licks your candy' or 'cock' as it's so obviously implying. Fair do's, some of Babybird's stuff (Getaway, If You'll Be Mine, Bad Old Man, All I Want Is Love, I Was Never Here, There's Something Going On, Back Together and You Will Always Love Me being the most noteable) but songs like this, the overly critical and sycophantic All Men Are Evil and the trashy First Man On The Sun are utter shite.
