Break It Down Again Lyrics
(here we go)
Break it down again
So those are my dreams
And these are my eyes
Stand tall like a man
Headstrong like a horse
When it's all mixed up
Better break it down
Oo, oo. Oo, oo
In the world of secrets
In the world of sound
Oo, oo
It's in the way you're always hiding from the light
See for yourself, you have been sitting on a time bomb
No revolution maybe someone somewhere else
Could show you something new about you and your inner song
And all the love, and all the love in the world
Won't stop the rain from falling
Waste seeping underground (break it down again)
I want to break it down (break it down again)
Break it down again
So those are my schemes
And these are my plans
Hot tips for the boys
Fresh news from the force
When it's all mixed up
Better break it down
Oo, oo. Oo, oo
In the world of silence
In the world of sound
Oo, oo
"No sleep for dreaming" say the architects of life
Big bouncing babies, bread and butter can I have a slice?
They make no mention of the beauty of decay
Blue, yellow, pink umbrella, save it for a rainy day
And all the love, and all the love in the world
Won't stop the rain from falling
Waste seeping underground (break it down again)
I want to break it down (break it down again)
Horsing around
Pray to the power
Play to the crowd with your big hit sound
And they won't simmer Won't simmer
Won't simmer down
Play to the crowd
Play to the crowd
Play, yeah yeah
It's in the way you're always hiding from the light
Fast off to heaven just like moses on a motorbike
No revolution maybe someone else somewhere else
Could show you something new to help with the ups and downs
Break it down again
I want to break it down Break it down again
Break it down again (break it down again)
Break it down again (break it down again)
Break it down again
No more sleepy dreaming
No more building up
It is time to dissolve
Break it down again
No more sleepy dreaming
And these are my eyes
Stand tall like a man
Headstrong like a horse
Better break it down
Oo, oo. Oo, oo

i love this song. sometimes you gotta get to the start to start over
(Please see my comments on "Mr. Pessimist.")
The bulk of the "Elemental" album is Roland's answer to his deep disappointment over Curt exiting TFF. Roland felt betrayed. After Curt left, Roland retained the TFF name, essentially "became" TFF, and felt he was beginning anew. The songs "Break It Down Again" and "Elemental" are both about starting over, without Curt.
@imagodoc Couldn't have put it better myself...I was gutted when Curt left the duo, especially when he was my favourite of the two!

No he is'nt gay and the song is not about gay rights whatsoever.
He is married to his childhood sweetheart and ahs been for about 24 years.
But interesting analysis anyway - I think its about just taking time out from complicated ways of thinking or situations, and just breaking the situtaion or problem down into simple steps in order to deal with it and get the right result -I'm probably wrong though!! :)
@Mrs_Orzabal No, I think that you've hit the proverbial nail squarely upon its head!!

PS. Love the user name!! And it's far more original than if you had 'married' Curt & ended up as 'Mrs Smith', eh?!

@Mrs_Orzabal for awhile i thought Roland was gay cuz of Change. Idk why Change made me think Roland was gay but it did

like imagodoc said, this song is likely to be about roland starting over after TFF's break up, i dont think this is about gay rights, although you certainly dont have to be gay to sing about it...
"...so you have to be gay to write a song about gay rights?"
Technically, no, but how many songs about women's rights do you know that are penned by men? Exactly. Songs about women's rights, a woman defending herself from a man, etc. are nearly always penned by women. (Mainly, Tori Amos :-P)
Think about it. But no I don't really see the gay rights interpretation, that was my point. It does make sense that he is writing about Curt, but I guess the gay rights interpretation could spring up by writing a song about another man.

Does anyone know where the army samples at the end come from? I've heard the same sample in another song.
@samwalton I am pretty sure they come from REM's song Orange Crush.

@samwalton I believe it is this sound effect from a sound effects compilation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2G3jfAxUbY

It was also used in the song Jesus Walks by Kanye West.

LMAO @ stoolhardy...are you dense or just stupid?
"...how many songs about women's rights do you know that are penned by men? Exactly."
Perhaps you've heard of a little song called Woman In Chains?! By, you know, TEARS FOR FEARS?!
Doh!
@forest29 But he did write "nearly always penned by women" - however, the irony of TFF having written "Woman in Chains" certainly isn't lost on me!

Woman in chains is about orzabal himself. How he saw his mother being abused. It's not about generic woman.

Ever think that it's nothing to do with gay rights or the rights of women, or about the break up of the band?
Ever think that this song is so clearly about the need to stop building and building a corporate America and corporate West for that matter, that keeps consuming, consuming and consuming and doesn't stop to see the things around them? The song is about stopping the consumption of the entire world's resources, and instead breaking things down (i.e. getting back to basics) and using our resources over again instead of abusing them.
The beauty in decay line is especially expressive of this, they being corporate bigwigs, corporate america, consumers, those folks driving around in heated leather seats in business suits and constantly on conference calls, they don't stop to see the beauty of decay. They just knock it down and build up again, they don't let things LAST. They replace things too quickly and don't understand that peeling paint on an old farmhouse is part of the charm, not part of the problem.
Get me? I hope so, I'm rambling.
Picture wall street and stock brokers and Donald Trumps all too busy crunching numbers to experience life or stop consuming everything in sight.
