Sketches Of Pain Lyrics
Daylight Saved
Daylight Saved
To spite the dark
In spite of the darkness
There I'll crave
There I'll crave
To get to the heart
In spite of the darkness
Great wide stretches of canvas
Signed by a godless name
Strange bright colours of madness
Only a fool would frame
Sketches of Pain
Sketches of Pain
Sketches of Pain
Some cry shame
Some cry shame
We tore them apart
We failed to imagine
God might claim
God might claim
The works of art
We failed to imagine
Great wide stretches of canvas
Signed by a godless name
Strange bright colours of madness
Only a fool would frame

thanks to adonisiegfried for some clarification! At the risk of stating something that's obvious but hasn't been mentioned yet, I would like to add that the title of the song is sort of a pun. It's a cheeky take on the Miles Davis song Sketches of Spain, which would also lend some amount of inspiration to the flamenco section. Great song from an incredible album by phenomenal group.
great song, wow no one has commented on this, great song
Wow.... found this song on a 9/11 tribute site... very evocative song and the little flamenco bit near the end works perfectly with the somberness of the whole "canvas" of the song. Awesome. Cool.
Peace
So no one knows the meaning yet? Ugh I wanna know!
I think its pretty self explanitory. I think its about how some art is judged and shamed because of its content. Sort of when people aren't ready to accept change they just destory it and the person who created it. Shamefully I must say one could think of it as the mobs reaction in the movie Plesantville.
According to Roland Orzabal, in an interview given around the time Raoul and The Kings Of Spain was released, "Sketches Of Pain" is a song about Vincent Van Gogh. And it's beautifully evocative of his paintings in my opinion. One of my favourite TFF songs.
